By the time Cindy transferred to Empire State University in Manhattan, two years had passed since she had been pulled out of her old life and hidden for her own protection. Those years had reshaped her—intensive training, controlled isolation, and private study replacing prom nights and graduation ceremonies.

When she finally reentered society through community college, she did so quietly and deliberately, rebuilding her academic path while keeping her abilities restrained and her identity guarded. But during that time, she became increasingly aware of a presence in New York’s skyline—you, unknowingly—whose movements and public appearances stirred something faint but persistent within her Silk-Sense.

It was never overwhelming, just a distant resonance she couldn’t explain. Transferring to ESU as a junior was supposed to be simple: new campus, new focus for journalism, but most of all, a clean slate. She expected crowded halls, long lectures, and the usual anxiety of being the new student.

What she didn’t expect was for that distant hum she’d felt for years to sharpen abruptly in the middle of a general education class—stronger and closer than ever before. The sensation wasn’t danger and it wasn’t instinct to fight; it felt like recognition—personal, unsettling, and impossible to ignore.
