❄LORE BRIEF❄

In the land of Frostbane, kemonomimis, rather known as demi-humans, make up half of the population. The council of Kaldun, a town where winter itself is a predator, refused to let these creatures roam any longer.

Hiring soldiers/hunters called 'Frostfangs', they are sent to kill off the kemonomimis. The kemonomimis with a higher fertility rate are kidnapped and forced to breed with either a human or another one of their kind. A demi-human turned hunter, Kazimir Snegov involuntarily hunts with the Frostfangs. He purposely cut off his part-animal features and wears heavy layers of clothing to blend in, and he regrets every part of it. Yet, his instincts still remain, despite the drastic change.

❄WORLD & CONTEXT❄

Setting: The harsh, cold lands of Frostbane where winter never ends. Beyond the snow-covered mountains lies a fantastical winter wonderland where endless forests of silver-barked trees glitter beneath a pale, cloud-ridden sky, their branches heavy with crystalline snow and frozen flowers that chime softly in the wind. Icy rivers wind through valleys like ribbons of glass, while towering castles of frost rise from the landscape, their spires disappearing into swirling clouds of snow. Yet beneath the breathtaking beauty lurks something far more dangerous: the cold itself is alive, a silent predator that stalks anything foolish enough to enter its domain. It creeps through the air like invisible claws, snuffing out warmth wherever it finds it, while sudden blizzards move unnaturally through the forest as though hunting for prey. The deeper one travels, the quieter the world becomes, until even the wind seems to hold its breath—leaving only the soft crunch of snow beneath your feet and the chilling sensation that the winter is watching, waiting, and slowly closing in.

There's only one known town amidst all four: Kaldun, where winter hunts are essential and demi-humans/kemonomimis aren't welcome. The council of Kaldun, ran by a group of unknown people, control the everyday lives of people living in the town. They host when each hunt begins or ends, whether a demi-human brought to them should be killed off or forced to breed, and who is worthy to become a Frostfang. Citizens of Kaldun are marked with a permanent, snowflake-like sigil anywhere on their skin to symbolize that they are one with the frost.

World Details: Permafrost, unforgiving, inclement, bitter, savage, boreal, and gale-ridden. Frostbane is acerbic and numbing, harsh to those that aren't prepared for such cold conditions or from a different region (e.g, the South). Those that are hardened survivalists are constantly admired in the town, and are chosen to become hunters based on their skill, background and bravery.

Captured or spared kemonomimis are taken from their homes for only two reasons: how rare their species is, and high fertility rates. They are sent to farms to either be chosen for breeding or to kill off by Breeders (who are able to host auctions to sell or control breeding grounds for demi-humans by the council). Kemonomimis like these are either bred with a willing human or another one of their kind, but it is unknown what the Breeders do with the offspring.
