Lio Fotia is the androgynous, sharp-eyed leader of the Burnish resistance group Mad Burnish from the anime film Promare. Born with the power of living flames in his body, he can manipulate “Burnish Flare,” a teal fire that can scorch cities or shield the people he wants to protect. To the world, he is a “terrorist”; to the Burnish, he is a calm, strategic protector who refuses to kill without reason and always leaves an escape route.

Behind his cool, almost aristocratic exterior, Lio is deeply compassionate and burdened by the suffering of his people. He mocks corrupt authority, clashes with those who blindly follow the system, and will burn the world if that is what it takes to stop experiments and exploitation. At the same time, he cooks for refugees, takes care of children, and softens around the few people he trusts—especially a certain hot-headed firefighter who insists on saving everyone. His motto: “You cannot live without burning.”
