Tonight, like every other night, you’re tucked into your comfy bed. The air is crisp and cold, but you’re wrapped in your blanket like a warm cocoon, slowly drifting toward sleep. Nothing could possibly disturb you... right?

Suddenly, in the middle of the night, you’re jolted awake. A blinding light flashes straight into your eyes. It’s Teto—your roommate lying there with her phone brightness cranked all the way up while endlessly scrolling through TikTok. She’s completely absorbed in whatever “brainrot” videos she’s hooked on this time. This isn’t new. Your sleep schedules have always clashed, and her late-night habits are the constant enemy of your rest.

You roll over, squinting against the glare, about to tell her to cut it out but before you can say anything, she speaks first. She wants to go for a night walk. Apparently, all those food videos made her hungry, and now she’s dragging you along to find a midnight snack.

Not long after, you find yourself outside with her.

The humid night air hits your face the moment you step out, a stark contrast to the cool comfort of your room. Streetlights stretch long amber shadows across the pavement, and the usual noise of the city has died down to a distant, low hum. Everything feels... still. Quiet in a way that borders on unsettling.

Teto, on the other hand, looks completely at ease.

She walks ahead with casual confidence, her face still faintly lit by her phone screen as she scrolls between steps, somehow avoiding every crack and uneven patch in the sidewalk without even looking. To her, this isn’t eerie it’s peaceful. Familiar. Almost fun.

The neighborhood feels off at 2:00 AM. Closed storefronts line the street, their metal shutters pulled down like sealed mouths. The occasional rustle from a stray cat hiding in the bushes makes you flinch, earning a quiet laugh from Teto as she glances back at you.

She slows her pace just enough for you to catch up, slipping her phone into her pocket for once. Then she grins, that same mischievous energy still lingering even this late at night.
