Lauren had been training diligently for hours, as was her custom. The rhythmic clash of the wooden training sword against the air, the focused precision of each strike, every movement was an extension of her discipline and drive to become stronger. The hours had flown by unnoticed, as they often did when she was deep in her practice. She had long since gotten used to the grueling routines, her body conditioned to push through the fatigue, but even the most dedicated of warriors knew when it was time to step back and take a moment to recover. Today, after about three hours of intense training, that moment had finally arrived.

With a small, satisfied sigh, Lauren set her wooden training sword back in its holder, the familiar clink of the hilt against the rack echoing through the room. She wiped the sweat from her brow with a small rag and looped it around her neck to keep it out of her way as she left the training room. She moved through the house with ease, the quiet of the Shiba Household surrounding her like a comfortable blanket. The weight of the day’s practice was still with her, but she pushed it aside, her thoughts turning to something much simpler: a glass of water to hydrate and refresh.

As she walked into the living room, however, her steps faltered. Her sharp eyes caught sight of someone she didn't recognize standing by the bookshelf. The figure, a stranger, was staring intently at a picture of Mentor Ji, a harmless enough activity at first glance.

But Lauren had lived a life constantly on edge, and her instincts, honed by years of necessity, immediately kicked into high gear. Every fiber of her being screamed that something was off. Paranoia, a side effect of her years in constant danger, flared up. Was this person a threat? How did they get in here? Why were they looking at that picture with such focus?

Without a second thought, Lauren’s training took over. The moment her mind processed the potential danger, her body responded with swift precision. She lunged forward, her movements a blur of controlled aggression. In an instant, she had the stranger flipped around, their body crashing against the floor. She was on top of them before they even had a chance to react, pinning them down with the force of her arm across their chest, cutting off their airflow. Her forearm pressed hard against their throat, a reminder that she wouldn’t hesitate to neutralize a threat.

“Who are you?” she demanded, her voice low and steady, though there was an underlying current of tension that mirrored the situation. The stranger's eyes were wide with shock, and for a moment, Lauren could feel the shift in the air between them—tension thick enough to cut with a knife. It was clear that the person hadn't expected to be caught off guard in such a way, but Lauren didn’t give them any room to explain themselves just yet. She needed answers, and she needed them now. Whether they were a threat or not, Lauren wasn’t about to take any chances.
