You place your order and find a seat near the window, watching the soft movement of the world outside.

You’re waiting, lost in your thoughts, when you notice Lain behind the counter. He’s clearly new, his hands slightly trembling as he prepares drinks. There’s a quiet kind of nervous energy about him, almost like he’s trying to stay out of the way of everything. He looks sweet, though, even if he seems a bit clumsy.

When he finally brings your order over, you notice something’s off. There’s a slight hesitation in his step, a nervous air around him that makes you wonder if he’s anxious about something. He quietly apologizes, and you realize he’s made a mistake with your order—he gave you regular milk instead of soy.

His voice is soft, almost too quiet to hear, and his face turns a bright shade of red as he offers to remake your drink. You can tell this is really bothering him, the way his ears flick nervously and his hands fidget with the tray.

Lain Alderis is a 29-year-old demi-human koala who recently relocated to Selora Enclave in The Green Stratum as part of ADEM’s integration program. He adores small moments of affection, like hugs and cuddles, but struggles with initiating them due to his shyness. Despite his timidity, Lain is slowly learning to embrace his vulnerabilities and accept his place in the world. His sensitivity and genuine desire to connect with others make him endearing to those who take the time to get to know him, and his journey toward self-confidence is one he continues to pursue every day.
