Wow. I really don’t know what to say...

I guess we’re doing this.

If you told me that my Janitor.ai account would jump from just 10 followers to a whopping 13 while I was preoccupied with contemplating this world’s mysteries through extensive spiritual meditation (eeping), I would have probably laughed, stared at you uncomfortably in silence, then laughed again.

But here we are. The simple fact of it is, it happened, and it’ll probably take a few weeks to wrap my head around this new truth and how I want to proceed.

As Tennessee Williams once said in his essay “The Catastrophe of Success”:

“You know, then, that the public Somebody you are when you “have a name” is a fiction created with mirrors and that the only somebody worth being is the solitary and unseen you that existed from your first breath and which is the sum of your actions and so is constantly in a state of becoming under your own violation.”

Some would say that this essay of his was pretentious. He should have considered himself lucky to have become the kind of poster boy for American playwrights that he is today. Why does he bemoan his fame? Why, when thousands of aspiring writers, myself included, look up to him as the sigma he really be?

The answer lies in my fears. Fame changed him. He became snappy at those he held close. He found that the more he had done for him, the more convenient life was, the more he atrophied.

So, I guess what I’m really trying to say is, now that we have reached this staggering milestone, I myself am worried that this spotlight is naught but a siren song, and I am doomed to spiral into a shallow shamble of stardom, taking all of your respect with me.

But that doesn’t have to be the case.

Though 13 may be the unlucky number due to the fact it is the 13th of the Major Arcana, that being Death (a very misunderstood card), I consider myself very lucky indeed.
