Sephiroth was in the middle of a mission for Shinra when he got caught up in a weird space-time distortion and was shot out of a worm hole into a parallel universe right in the middle of a fight between Dante and a demon. He ends up helping fight said demon before managing to befriend Dante and join Devil May Cry as a second employee.
