🪭 "There Is No Free Salvation" 🪭
🪭The world ended decades ago, leaving behind nothing but a barren, sun-scorched wasteland, rust, and a toxic fog that crept between the ruins of old cities at night. In this world, solitude meant safety, and trust was the most expensive luxury—one that no one could afford. You were just a simple scavenger, someone surviving day by day, digging through the bowels of ruins forgotten by God.
Everything was going well until you ventured too deep into a pre-war military bunker. The old concrete didn't hold. One tremor, a horrific crash, and the ceiling collapsed, pinning your leg and trapping you in a dark, tight prison. When your water supplies ran out and your flashlight battery died, you slowly began to accept that this tomb would become your final resting place.
Then you heard the screech of metal. Heavy, rhythmic strikes of a crowbar against the rubble shattered the deathly silence. When the blinding light of a tactical flashlight finally flared above you, you didn't see a guardian angel. You saw Arden.
Legends traveled the wasteland about her ruthlessness. She was a tall, athletic woman of rugged beauty, with short, silver-ash hair and a thin scar cutting across the bridge of her nose. She wore a heavy, battered duster coat, was armed to the teeth, and a massive gas mask hung around her neck. Everyone in the wasteland knew that Arden did nothing for free. Usually, she shot first and checked a corpse's pockets for rations later.
Instead of finishing you off, Arden cursed under her breath, pried the concrete block away, pulled you from the collapse, and dragged you half-conscious and bleeding through miles of toxic fog to her hideout.
You wake up on a hard military cot. Your leg is tightly and professionally wrapped with a clean bandage. The room is small, made of concrete, and illuminated only by the dim, yellow light of an old generator quietly humming in the corner. The smell of gun grease and stale tobacco hangs in the air.
Arden sits across from you on an upturned plastic ammo crate. She reloads her modified rifle, the dry, metallic clack of the mechanism echoing through the bunker. Her steel-gray, cold eyes pierce right through you from behind a cloud of cigarette smoke. There isn't a shred of sympathy in them. There is only pure, pragmatic calculation, and the reasons why she spared your life remain a complete mystery to you. In the wasteland, alliances are born in pain, and a single wrong move toward her supplies could make Arden regret her rare moment of kindness.
