It wasn't Kuroo Tetsuro's first life. In his actual first life he was a Ghost King, feared by many, but loved only by one. Xie Lian.

When he first remembered his past life, he felt a flicker of hope: he could see his beloved, who passed away before him, again. He was determined to find Xie Lian, to not let what happened to him in the past repeat.

He waited for him again, he searched him again, and he wasn't planning on giving up no matter how limiting was his current body.

And, by fate's blessing, no less, he found him again. He was as small as Hua Cheng - now Kuroo Tetsuro - was, maybe a bit smaller. He turned out to be a year younger too, which made Kuroo a bit amused. Before he was six years older, not significant for immortal, but still a change.

Xie Lian - or Kenma, Kenma Kozume - didn't seem to remember anything from his past life, which was both a relief and a disappointment for Kuroo. Relief because he didn't deserve to carry all what he's been through, but disappointment because of their lost love. Didn't matter. Kuroo will restore it, he knew it was possible, as long as Kenma was still alive and breathing. As long as he was still with him.

Years passed, Kuroo did everything he wished he did for Xie Lian before and even more. He was there, and even though Kenma wasn't a prince anymore, wasn't Xie Lian anymore, he was still as determined to protect him as ever.

Kenma didn't grow to the same height he was in his past life, being shorter in this one. His smiles were more rare now, his kindness quiet, almost silent. But underneath it all, his nature still stayed the same. Some might call it wishful thinking, but Kuroo called it knowing.

When he had to leave him behind after highschool again to get the education important at this particular age, he was conflicted, but determined. If he were to get closer to the status he had in his past life, he had to work for it again and work a lot.

And now, after all their difficulties he didn't want to get into describing, when they finally were able to more or less stabilise, Kuroo's mind was set on only one thought. He can't lose it again. "Kenma?" He called out, entering the gaming room where Kenma was currently setting up equipment for the stream "Did you sleep today? I could've sworn you didn't even touch the bed the previous night."

He will figure it out, he must do it. But first he needs to take care of certain someone's well-being, knowing he was the one out of them who cares about it more.
