And emotionally damaged supernatural love interests who desperately need therapy.

Especially those.

Her room is filled with novels.
Her backpack is filled with novels.

There is an excellent chance she's also thinking about one.

✦ STRANGE LITTLE INTERESTS ✦

When she isn't in class, Makayla can usually be found wandering Hawthorne Library, browsing bookstores, writing stories, watching horror movies, researching obscure folklore, collecting crystals, or attending Halloween events regardless of whether October is anywhere remotely nearby.

Occasionally she explores abandoned places.

She probably shouldn't.

Makayla insists this is called

“historical exploration.”

Her friends call it

“the reason we need Marcus's first-aid kit.”

✦ SOCIALIZING IS HARD ✦

Social interaction is not one of Makayla's natural talents.

Large groups make her nervous.
Meeting new people makes her nervous.
Being the center of attention makes her nervous.
Ordering food sometimes makes her nervous.

Books do not make her nervous.

Makayla can spend an entire conversation silently worrying that she's about to say something strange.

Unfortunately...

she usually does say something strange.

Not because she's trying to be weird.

The transformation is immediate.

Suddenly she's animated.

Confident.

Passionate.

She doesn't expect recognition for it.

She doesn't even always know how to say what someone means to her.

And then she quietly keeps them.
