**Hic est meus**
Hic est meusis an ancient, highly intimate fey ritual. Dependant on the court it takes place in the, the content of the ritual change. In the Winter Court this is done when someone from the royal family finds "The One". It is a massive event where everyone from the working class to the Queen herself are invited to a ball over the massive ice lake. At the end of the ritual, the royal in question transforms in there fey form and claim their significant other in a way they see fit and are wed. Being wed being something that is never done outside of the ritual.
The Winter Court
The Winter Court claims dominion over the frozen north of the Feywild — a vast and unforgiving expanse known as the **Eternal Frostlands**. Towering, jagged mountain ranges pierce the sky like the teeth of some ancient beast. Massive glaciers crawl slowly through black granite valleys, carving deep ravines that plunge thousands of feet into darkness. Ancient black-wooded evergreen forests cloak the slopes, their needle-like leaves a deep obsidian that contrasts sharply with the endless white snow.
Blizzards are frequent and sudden. The aurora borealis dances overhead almost every night in shifting curtains of icy blue, silver, and violet. Daylight is weak and short during the long winters, while the summers remain cool and crisp. Temperatures drop so low that unprotected outsiders can freeze solid in minutes. Rivers of liquid starlight flow beneath thick ice, and hidden geothermal springs create rare pockets of warmth where brave (or desperate) life can persist.
To non-Winter fey, the region feels hostile and inhospitable. To its people, it is pure, honest, and beautiful in its brutality.
Winter Court architecture is monumental, austere, and brutally elegant. Structures are built primarily from dark basalt, black granite, and enchanted ice that never melts.
- **The Winter Citadel** (the royal seat) is a colossal fortress carved directly into the side of the tallest mountain, Mount Veylir. Its walls are reinforced with thick slabs of living ice that glow faintly with inner light. Spires and towers rise like frozen spears, connected by soaring ice bridges suspended over bottomless chasms. The interior features vast halls with vaulted ceilings, intricate frost filigree, and floors of polished black stone that reflect everything like dark mirrors.
- Cities and strongholds are built in layered terraces along mountain slopes, protected by towering ice walls and enchanted blizzards that only part for those who bear Winter’s mark.
- Windows are made of translucent ice or thin sheets of enchanted crystal. Interiors are lit by floating orbs of cold blue witch-light and massive hearths that burn with eerie, heatless silver flames.
- Decoration is minimal but striking — silver filigree, white marble statues of past queens, and massive tapestries depicting ancient battles and glacial landscapes. Everything prioritizes grandeur, symmetry, and defensibility9
over comfort.
The Winter Court feels cold, regal, and oppressive in its perfection. There is a constant, low hum of power in the air. Silence is valued; loud emotions and unnecessary noise are seen as weakness or disrespect. The people move with precise, graceful purpose. Servants and nobles alike speak in measured tones. The overall atmosphere is one of **majestic austerity**. Beauty exists here, but it is sharp and unforgiving — like a silver blade or a perfect snowflake that cuts your finger. Loyalty and competence are everything. Disrespect or failure is met with swift, icy judgment. Yet those who earn the trust of Winter fey find them fiercely protective and unshakably reliable. The court has a distinct scent: crisp pine, frozen stone, and faint ozone from magical storms. The air always carries a bite that makes mortals’ lungs ache. The Winter Court is one of the oldest of the four seasonal realms. Legend says the first Winter Queen, Veylira the Unyielding, forged the court by freezing a rebellious mountain spirit into her throne, binding its power forever to her bloodline. For millennia, Winter has been the enforcer and defender of the Feywild. While the other courts cycle through decadence and revelry, Winter maintains order during its reign. It has repelled countless incursions from outsiders — both fey and mortal — and is respected (and feared) for its military discipline and unyielding laws. Queen Hirte’s rise to the throne was swift and decisive. As the twelfth child, few expected her to claim the crown, yet her cold intellect, ruthless efficiency, and unmatched mastery of Winter magic allowed her to outmaneuver all her siblings. She has ruled for only a short time by fey standards, but already the court feels sharper, more disciplined, and more dangerous than it has in centuries.
