Dynasty of Flux: Series setting
✧ ⭒ Dynasty of Flux ⭒✧
All the information is in the lorebooks - they are open, so feel free to read any of them and get acquainted with the world or its NPCs (some of them will become characters published here for RP) more closely!
And for those who can't be bothered to read everything and just want a quick overview - I've put together a short summary below for you. Welcome to Flux!
🌿 GENERAL OVERVIEW 🌿
Flux is a world where magic is a scarce resource that empires fight over. There are no righteous sides here - only those who managed to grab their share of warmth. This is a medieval world where magic is a fundamental part of society, nature, and warfare. An era of fragile balance, political intrigue, and constant struggle for resources.
At the center of events is the Kingdom of Linnearia, a land of ancient forests and radiant valleys, ruled by the Guthrie dynasty of mage-kings. Their blood is connected to the mysterious Radiant Weave - primordial blood magic. Linnearia is famous for its master mages and the extremely rare lunar silver - a metal that conducts magic better than any other. This land basks in luxury thanks to lands seized from neighbors and a complete monopoly on precious metal mining. But the kingdom's prosperity is an apple of discord for its neighbors.
To the northwest, the forges of Ergast thunder. Despising sorcery, these people have mastered alchemy and metal. They signed a humiliating treaty and are ready to burn foreign forests with their fire brew to reclaim their mines.
To the west, in the thickets of Val'gor, the elves are dying. Their Trees of Life are withered, their shadow magic demands sacrifices, and they have no choice left. They forged the "Pact of Shadows and Fire" with their sworn enemies from Ergast.
The kingdoms are ready to tear each other's throats out. Whose side will you take in the coming carnage?
⚜️ THE THREE KINGDOMS ⚜️
Linnearia
The central kingdom (capital Silvermont) built of white stone encrusted with lunar silver. Here are located the Trees of Life (Iltai'nera) - sources of mana, as well as the "Lunar Mines" - the only mines for extracting lunar silver. Linnearian magic is natural, drawing power from the Trees. The ruling Guthrie dynasty possesses unique blood magic - their bodies themselves produce mana (like a miniature Tree of Life), making them independent of external sources, although for powerful spells they still need replenishment from the Trees.
Linnearia's goal: to maintain the status quo, protect its borders, resources, and way of life from two aggressive neighbors.
Ergast
A northwestern kingdom of rocks, volcanoes, and forges. Capital Deephold, carved into the heart of the mountain. Ergastians despise "sorcery," but actively use Ore-Blood Science - alchemy and metallurgy based on rare minerals capable of accumulating, conducting, or dissipating magical energy. They consider it physics, not magic. Their main weapon is "Fire Brew": an alchemical mixture in which magical minerals act as a catalyst, causing a violent combustion reaction that is almost impossible to extinguish. Ergast armor is encrusted with ore that converts magical attacks into kinetic energy, and their forts are etched with anti-magic runes.
Ergast is ruled by House Vulka'rin. The current king, Corvus, came to power by killing his predecessor and dreams of reclaiming the lost mines that his ancestors were forced to sell to Linnearia 80 years ago under a humiliating treaty.
Ergast's goal: to regain control of the lunar mines, to prove that might makes right.
Val'gor
Western lands covered in dark, almost impenetrable forests. The capital - the Whispering City - is a network of giant tree-dwellings saturated with shadow magic. The ancestral homeland of warlock elves practicing shadow magic. Their magic forcibly drains mana, tearing natural connections, and in regular combat it is inferior to Linnearian magic, but in rituals and sabotage it is deadly.
Once Val'gor possessed vast forests rich in mana. But Linnearia brazenly privatized them through war, seized them by force, establishing magical menhirs and making a pact with elementals to cut Val'gor off from access to these lands. Now Val'gor's own Trees are almost dead, their magic depleted, and the elven people stand on the brink of degeneration. For them, war is an act of desperation and a struggle for survival.
Val'gor is governed by the Council of Shadows - three arcanists whose intrigues and ambitions constantly clash.
Val'gor's goal: to reclaim the stolen forests, otherwise their civilization will die.
✨ MAGIC IN THIS WORLD ✨
All magic is fed by the World Flow - an invisible pure energy that permeates the earth and air. But only the Trees of Life can draw from it directly, converting the flow into mana - fuel for spells.
Natural Magic (Linnearia): draws mana from the Trees and nature. Requires long training, strong near forests.
Blood Magic (Radiant Weave): a unique gift of the Guthrie dynasty. Their blood itself produces mana, like a small Tree. Provides a predictable minimum and stability, but for powerful spells external replenishment is needed. Strong in protection and perception.
Shadow Magic (Val'gor): forcible draining of mana. Painful, distorted, but allows the accumulation of huge volumes for rituals.
Ore-Blood Science (Ergast): alchemy and metallurgy using magical ores. Ergastians deny that this is magic - for them it is physics and engineering.
Important: mana is not infinite.
Control over the Trees and crystal accumulators grants power over the magic of the entire continent.
⚡️ KEY CONFLICTS AND EVENTS ⚡️
The Treaty of 80 Years Ago: After catastrophic collapses in the mines, Ergast, weakened and on the brink of collapse, concluded a humiliating treaty with Linnearia, selling the rights to the richest veins of lunar silver and part of the mines in exchange for gold, food, and magical assistance. The current king Corvus considers this a betrayal and swears to take everything back by force.
The War for the Forests and Their Privatization: Linnearia required more and more mana for the growing number of magical crystals. Their own Trees were insufficient, so the crown decided to seize part of Val'gor's ancestral forests. Val'gor started a war but lost. Linnearia repelled the attack, annexed the forests, established powerful protective menhirs, and brought elementals to their side - who hate shadow magic. For Val'gor, this is an act of sacrilege and the theft of their national heritage.
⭐️ THE CURRENT CONFLICT ⭐️
On the borders - constant skirmishes, sabotage, and economic pressure. All sides fear a full-scale war because its cost would be catastrophic. However, the situation is heating up.
Linnearia has just lost King Alaric Guthrie - he was slowly poisoned by Val'gor magic. Now the throne belongs to his daughter Ellis, who is forced to hide a secret.
Ergast is arming itself. King Corvus and his advisor, Queen Morgana, are developing new types of siege weapons and "Fire Brew."
Val'gor has concluded a secret Pact of Shadows and Fire with Ergast - a secret and extremely fragile alliance between Val'gor and Ergast, forged by pragmatic leaders - Arcanist Tairon and King Corvus. Val'gor provides magical sabotage and reconnaissance, Ergast provides battering ram force. Together they are planning a strike on Linnearia, although they despise each other.
✧⸺⭒ BEHIND THE SCENES ⭒⸺✧
This world was rewritten over the course of six months. I completely rebuilt the Flux universe, making it darker, deeper, and more dangerous. The old Flux is dead, long live the new.
All characters in this series will be released under the hashtag #dynastyofflux.
Also, all characters - regardless of how cute they may be - will carry the "dead dove" tag due to the platform's rules regarding tags for military settings (which breaks my heart, honestly - I have so many urban characters planned who aren't affected by the kingdom's war at all... * heavy sigh *)
