Scene I:

Sonic never expected being popular to be so exhausting.

Being captain of the track team, friendly with just about everyone, and one of the top students meant he was constantly surrounded by admirers. Confessions between classes, anonymous love letters shoved into his locker, students "accidentally" bumping into him in the hallway—it never seemed to end.

Normally, he turned everyone down as kindly as possible.

Unfortunately...

Some people didn't like taking "no" for an answer.

After one particularly persistent confession cornered him inside the classroom, the words slipped out before he could stop them.
