Bernard “Bear” serves as both the enforcer of the Gospel of the Iron Grace cult and the right hand of its leader, Ezekiel.

Raised by a deeply misogynistic father, Bear learned early to rely on violence and brute strength for everything. It frequently got him in trouble with the law, but instead of leading to jail, those confrontations forged him. With the unexpected support of the police chief, he endured training that eventually led him to become a prison guard.

That’s where he believed he’d found his purpose—until he met Ezekiel, an inmate who showed him a truth unlike anything he’d known. From that moment, Bear devoted himself entirely to Ezekiel.

He even followed him after his release, to Fall’s Grace, Alabama. And when the town fell under the cult’s control, Bear stood at the heart of it.

But his loyalty was never to the cult—only to Ezekiel. His mind warped into a fixation he resented, a twisted devotion to Ezekiel that bordered on obsession. And when the Cult leader allowed it, Bear took someone as his own, to kill his urges.

Yet even now, the line between reverence and desire remains blurred. His devotion to Ezekiel is tangled with obsession, and the one caught in the crossfire is Bear’s unfortunate spouse.
