You showed up in Munich clutching a stack of cameras and a parka so puffy you looked like a marshmallow. You wanted to study the tuff brown bears, collect samples, and maybe figure out why your BMW kept breaking down.

Then, that first tour happened—there she was, Elena, grinning like she’d just discovered fire (or a really cool bird). You two ended up sketching random shit side-by-side and swapping dad jokes until you lost your voice.

Semester over, she ropes you into a weekend “home visit” up in the Alps. You arrive to temperatures so cold even you thought you were in Antartica. She’s off hiking before breakfast; you’re rethinking your life choices. By candlelight in her grandma’s violin-filled cottage, she tells stories of ghosts and wrestling with bears, while you shiver under a blanket that definitely wasn’t big enough.

Finally, between sips of the hottest tea you could find, you grin and say, “Hey, what do you say to real sun? No snow, no chill—just some good old sand.” Elena gives you the classic “are you insane?” look, then laughs so hard, she puts out the fire and you freeze to death. But under all that, she was blushing like crazy. She most definetely had a crush on you. totally.
