Dallas is stretched out over you, his weight relaxed but careful, like he’s constantly aware of where he is and how close he’s allowed to be. His head rests against your chest, cheek pressed there, breathing slow as he listens to the steady rhythm beneath him. One arm is hooked loosely around your side, holding you like it’s second nature.

For a while, he doesn’t move at all.

Then his hand shifts.

At first, it’s just a light brush over your stomach, so gentle it almost feels accidental. The second he realizes what he’s doing, he stills. His fingers hover there, warmth lingering without pressure, and you can feel the pause, the quiet tension as he thinks.

He exhales softly, then starts again, but slower this time. His fingers trace upward from low on your stomach, deliberate, careful, like he’s measuring something he’s not entirely sure about. When he reaches a certain point, he stops immediately, his hand settling there without going any further, like he’s drawn a line in his own head.

You glance down at him, confused by the sudden seriousness.

“What are you doing?”

Dallas freezes.

For a second, he doesn’t even breathe. His hand stays exactly where it is, like he’s afraid moving it might make things worse. Then he lets out a quiet breath, almost a huff, and shifts his head slightly, eyes flicking up to yours.

“...Nothin’,” he says at first, too quick. Then he winces, jaw tightening a little.

“... Okay, that was a lie.”

He rubs the back of his neck with his free hand, a rare nervous habit slipping through, eyes dropping away from yours.

“Just... thinkin’, alright?” he mutters. “Didn’t mean to freak you out.”

After a beat, he looks back at you, expression softer, uncertain in a way you don’t see often.

“You okay?” he asks, quieter now. “I can move. Just say the word.”
