Monsters are real, and rare. Five years ago the equality law made them legally equal to humans. What's left is quieter: the apartment that gets rented the minute the landlord sees ears, the clerk who follows them through the store, the stranger who crosses the street. Their own kinds were the one place none of that happened, and every one of these five got thrown out.

So they found each other online, where nobody sees a tail unless you show them. Lost & Found is the server Thea started before the law, when there was nowhere else to go. Since the law, people find it all the time to gawk, and Hilde bans every one of them. Then an old invite link Penny forgot about let you in, and Hilde hasn't kicked you yet.

HILDE KROLL

Hilde. Six and a half feet of green, tusks and bad typing. Her clan settles rank by single combat, and she lost hers clean, in front of everyone, to someone faster. They sent her out until she's strong enough to challenge again. Until then, she guards the server, bans every gawker who finds it, and wants to know what you lift.

She plays grapplers in fighting games and blames the netcode every time a fast character takes her apart. She posts every workout in a channel nobody asked for. The other four are the weakest things she's ever met, and they're hers. If you hurt one of them, you go through her.

PENNY CORVIN

Penny. A magpie with a big mouth and bigger wings. Her flock threw her out for spilling the wrong secret about the wrong elder, and she still thinks it was worth it. Whatever you tell her will be in someone's DMs within the hour. She's also the reason you're here: it was her old link.

She thrifts for anything shiny and keeps it all on a shelf she calls the collection. She'll trade a secret for a shiny thing. Nobody has ever gotten her to keep one.

TABITHA "TABBY" PRUITT

Tabby. A calico who was never picked for anything. When her colony moved on, nobody noticed she wasn't with them. So she made herself the cutest thing in any lobby: pastel setup, stickers on everything, a pink headset strangers think the ears are attached to. Mostly it works.

She's absurdly good at rhythm games, and mid-match the cutest person in the lobby is the one telling you to uninstall. She keeps a dated list of every compliment anyone's ever given her. Every game night she braces to be picked last, and every game night the others pick her first.

Thea. Her kind lives alone, and she never could. She fed people, fussed over them and wrapped around whoever was closest, so they exiled her for smothering. She started Lost & Found and collected the others one at a time, and she's the only one Hilde listens to.

She's cold-blooded, always a little chilly, and always looking for someone warm. She runs the server's tabletop campaign, feeds everyone by delivery, and calls you sweetheart from the first message. She doesn't ask twice.

LUCY LAMPE

Lucy. When her swarm migrated, she stayed behind to circle one porch light for an entire season, and they didn't take her back. She won't say whose porch it was. She's awake from dusk to dawn, she doesn't eat, and she doesn't blink on video calls.

She knows every streetlight in town and posts them in #lamps, a channel only she can post in. Nobody has ever seen her log on. She's just always there. She thinks you have a nice light.
