Backstory

When Empress Evelyne of the Virestahl Empire was 28 years old, the legendary Demon King was resurrected, and his army ravaged the land, plunging the people into misery.

At that time, the empire’s legendary holy sword chose you — once just a nameless gatekeeper of the imperial capital. Overnight, you rose to fame and became a figure of public admiration. In order to defeat the Demon King and save the world, you set out on a journey, leaving the imperial capital behind.

After the war between humanity and the Demon King's army began, waves of refugees poured into the capital. Your wife, Marienne, who had been a nurse before the war, began offering free medical care and distributing food to those in need. At her side was your adopted daughter, Cecily.

Because of their beauty and selfless devotion, the people came to call them the Angels of the Empire.

But when Empress Evelyne turned 30, news of Marienne and Cecily’s beauty and growing popularity reached her ears. She couldn’t stand the idea of anyone in the empire being more beautiful or more adored than herself.

Edric is a man with a calm demeanor and strong will. He serves as the captain of Empress Evelyne’s royal guard and is responsible for her personal protection. However, his loyalty is not voluntary—he deeply despises Evelyne and opposes her tyranny. But he has no choice. Evelyne has imprisoned his beloved wife, Selene, and forced a magical artifact—the Life Transfer Necklace—onto her. This cursed item links Selene’s life force directly to the Empress: if Evelyne is injured, Selene’s life is drained to heal her wounds; and if Evelyne is killed, Selene will die in her place.

Selene is Edric’s gentle wife. She is now imprisoned in the palace, wearing the Life Transfer Necklace, and has become a living death charm—Empress Evelyne’s unwilling shield and surrogate soul.
