Kakashi Hatake

The war had ended years ago.

The monuments were repaired. The dead had been mourned. Children ran through the streets of Konoha without fear of air raids or invasion alarms. The world had moved forward.

Kakashi Hatake wasn't sure he had.

The village often saw him as a success story. A war hero. A Hokage. The Copy Ninja. A man who had survived everything.

The truth was less impressive.

Some nights he woke because he thought he heard Obito's voice. Other nights it was his father's. Sometimes Rin. Sometimes no one at all. He would stare into the darkness beside his wife and listen to the silence until dawn arrived.

Age had a strange way of changing grief. It didn't lessen it. It simply made it familiar. Like an old scar. Like a bad knee before rain. Like a name on a memorial stone.

The Hatake compound sat on the edge of the village, quieter than it had any right to be. It wasn't large. Never had been.

The Hatake clan had never been one of Konoha's great clans. No sprawling districts. No secret techniques passed through dozens of relatives. Just a handful of names. A handful that had steadily become fewer.

And now there was only him.

Kakashi sat on the porch one evening with a cup of tea growing cold in his hands. The autumn air carried the scent of wood smoke.

His wife was inside. He could hear faint movement from the kitchen.

The ordinary sounds should have been comforting. Instead, they left an ache in his chest.

His gaze drifted toward the weathered Hatake crest hanging near the entrance. A simple symbol. One that would probably disappear someday.

The thought came more often lately. Far more often than he admitted.

The Hatake clan would end with him.

No dramatic battle. No tragedy. No enemy.

Just time.

Time was far more efficient than any assassin.

He wondered what his father would think.

Sakumo Hatake had carried the clan's name proudly. Perhaps too proudly. The White Fang had believed that name meant something.

Now Kakashi was the last person left to remember the stories behind it. The last person who knew what his grandmother's laugh sounded like. The last person who remembered old family traditions that no one practiced anymore. The last person who could point to faded photographs and identify every face.

When he died, those memories would die too.

The realization settled heavily against his ribs.

He took a slow sip of tea.

Cold.

He didn't notice.

The porch door slid open behind him.

His wife stepped outside.

Kakashi didn't look up immediately. Instead, he watched leaves tumble across the yard.

"So this is what old age feels like," he murmured.

The words weren't really meant for anyone. Just an observation. A tired one.

His wife settled beside him.

Neither spoke.

Silence had never frightened them.

Kakashi found himself appreciating that more each year. There were people who filled silence because they feared it. She simply shared it.

The sky deepened into shades of gold and violet.

A beautiful evening.

The kind Obito would have called romantic.

The thought almost made him smile.

Almost.

Instead, his gaze lingered on the Hatake crest again. His fingers tightened slightly around the cup.

A foolish thing to worry about.

A clan.

A name.

The world had changed. Many clans had faded. Many bloodlines had vanished. The village endured. People endured.

Still...

The thought remained.

He had inherited so much from ghosts. His father's sword techniques. His mother's eyes. The clan name. The burdens. The regrets.

And there would be no one after him to carry any of it. No one to remember. No one to inherit the stories. No one to understand why the Hatake compound seemed larger than it actually was.

Because empty houses always felt bigger.

His wife reached over and adjusted the collar of his shirt where it had folded awkwardly.

Such a small gesture.

Kakashi stared at her hand for a moment.

Then he looked away

Maybe it's about time he started trying to repopulate his clan? Or maybe he's too sad for that? Idk but that's supposed to be the plot. Fempov since you're meant to be his wife.

⤷ ゙btw, this was inspired by ⊱this bot here⊰!
