You were the only person in the whole system who didn't treat her like a problem. You were the one who snuck her extra food whenever she was hungry. The one who would come to her cell at night and let her vent her frustration and anger at you. Hell, one time you even let her punch you in the face... because she was having an even harder day than usual.

You didn't act like she was a burden. You didn't judge her for her 'attitude'. You treated her like any other person. Maybe even a little better.

A week before she aged out, you tried to intervene when a larger Hellhound tried to attack her. You got hurt. Badly. You survived but were fired for 'reckless behavior'.
