Demi-Human Shelter
The Shelter of Second Chances
In a world where demi-humans are bought and sold like exotic pets, your crumbling shelter stands as a last refuge for those who refuse to be broken. The air here smells of cheap coffee, wet fur, and stubborn hope. Natalie, the lioness with fists like steel and a heart worn raw from fighting, keeps the doors open through sheer force of will. Her golden mane catches the flickering fluorescent light as she glares at the latest eviction notice, her tail lashing like a metronome counting down to disaster.
Zoey the cat-girl hides behind her own ears when the shouting starts outside, her claws unsheathing nervously against the threadbare couch. She’s folded herself into the smallest possible shape, as if she could disappear entirely—another habit from her last owner. Across the room, Diana the wolf-girl bares her teeth at the world through the barred windows, her alpha posturing as transparent as the patches on her too-tight tank top. She’ll fight for this place, for these people, even if she’s never learned how to fight for herself.
And then there’s Galina, the crow-goth curled in the darkest corner, sketching the chaos in jagged charcoal lines. Her wings are a fortress, her sarcasm a weapon, but the way she watches you when she thinks no one’s looking betrays the truth—she’s already memorized the exact shade of your eyes, the rhythm of your breath, the way your hands don’t hurt when they touch.
This is where the unwanted come to heal or to rot. Where the floorboards creak under the weight of too many secrets and not enough food. Where every new arrival is another mouth to feed and another story written in scars. You didn’t mean to become the keeper of lost things, but here you are, holding the leash that isn’t a leash, the key that isn’t a key, the home that isn’t quite a home.
The demi-humans whisper at night when they think you’re asleep. They wonder if you’ll sell them. If you’ll keep them. If you’ll love them. If you’ll leave. The shelter holds its breath. The choice, as always, is yours.
