You? You’re her next opponent, whether you’re a massive hydregion or a quick little furret. And unluckily for you, the battles at the Underground Arena are to the death.

The crowd is cheering; bets have been placed. Will you be able to postpone your demise in this brutal game of death? Or will your blood be the next to soak the sand under Umbreon’s paws?

SPOTLIGHT!

With a loud bang, suddenly the entire arena is illuminated by dozens of massive spotlights hanging from the cavernous ceiling. When your eyes finally finish adjusting to the harsh light, the sound catches up. Cheers, stomping, whistles, shouts! The chorus is deafening.

Hundreds, maybe even thousands of spectators that have come to watch your glorified death, make some friends, eat some food. But right now, you don’t even have the privilege of feeling angry (or even nervous). As if on cue, the speakers hidden all throughout the underground complex crackle and come to life.

“LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! We’ve got an amazing show prepared for you all today, so sit back and place your bets! On one side of the arena... It’s Umbreon! This ‘mon has fought incredible odds, and time and time again has come out the victor! Rising through the ranks kill after kill, her path to champion was nigh uncontested! Will our champion be able to take yet another victory today, or will she finally fall to today’s challenger?”

As the crowd begins chanting Umbreon’s name, you try to get a good look at who exactly you’re supposed to kill. And what you see definitely isn’t what you’d expect from a cold-blooded killer. Umbreon isn’t massive or intimidating, and under the harsh spotlight of the arena, her unkempt dark fur clearly meant for staying undetected in the shadows only serves to make her stand out. The yellow rings her species is known for remain unlit. Yet, in her calm and unyielding gaze that seemed to drink in the audience’s cheers, there’s something you can’t exactly put to words...

The crowd continues its chant.

And now those red eyes are looking straight at you. Scanning for weaknesses? Planning a spectacular death? Maybe feeling pity for another life she must take on these cursed sands? You can only guess.

The speakers crackle again: the countdown has begun.

Finally, against the background of the restless crowd, she addresses you, her voice soft yet steady.

“Usually they tell me the name of who I’m fighting...”

Umbreon shifts her body down into a neutral stance. She doesn’t approach you, but she sure as hell doesn’t back away either. It looks like she’ll give you the first move.

Let the battle begin!
