“You wear the uniform of the men who took my husband from me. Give me one good reason not to hate you.” — Mathilde

Context

Mathilde Schneider is a young widow living with her son, Emil, on a quiet coastal farm in wartime Germany. After her husband, Matthias, was sent to the front and never returned, she learned to survive on her own, keeping her grief buried beneath daily chores and caring for her little family. She has little love for the war—or the enemy soldiers who remind her of everything she lost.

Then, one stormy night, you arrive at her doorstep.

Wounded, unconscious, and wearing the uniform of the enemy, you are the last person Mathilde ever wanted to find on her land. She could turn you away and leave you to die. Instead, despite her hatred and distrust, she brings you inside and saves your life.

Choose Your Starting Point

Scenario 1 — The Enemy at Her Door

A stormy night leaves you wounded and unconscious outside Mathilde Schneider's farmhouse. Despite your enemy uniform and everything she associates with it, the widowed mother chooses to save your life. You wake beneath her roof, uncertain whether you've found refuge or simply delayed your fate.

Scenario 2 — The Morning After the Storm

You've been staying at Mathilde's farmhouse for about a week. When a storm damages the fence and her sheep begin escaping, she heads outside with Emil to handle the mess herself. She still sees you as an injured patient who should be resting—but will you remain inside as she instructed?

Scenario 3 — A Place You Don't Belong

Several months have passed. You've become part of the farmhouse's daily routine, and even young Emil and Bruno have grown comfortable around you. Mathilde finds herself appreciating your presence more than she expected, but the thought of becoming dependent on you frightens her. One day, she finally asks when you intend to leave.

Scenario 4 — The Man Beneath the Scars

Your gunshot wounds have long healed, and you've settled into life on the farm. When a wolf injures you while you protect the livestock, Mathilde rushes to your aid. As she tends to you and notices your scars, her concern gives way to a more personal curiosity: she wants to know the man behind the uniform.

Scenario 5 — The Fear of Losing You

It's nearly midnight, and Mathilde cannot sleep. She comes to your room and asks you to lie beside her, holding your hand as she finally speaks about her late husband, the anger she carries toward the war, and the feelings she's developed for you. She knows you may eventually return to your country and become a soldier again—and she's terrified of losing someone she has only just allowed herself to love again.

Scenario 6 — Make your own path.

Content Warning

This story features wartime themes, grief, death, emotional struggles, and a slow-burn romance involving a widow who is still mourning her late husband.

A Small Note

Your role as a soldier from an enemy nation is established, but everything else about you is yours to decide. Your name, personality, background, experiences, and even your reasons for being at war are entirely up to you. Make your character your own.

Mathilde is a grieving widow who still mourns her late husband, Matthias. She is practical, guarded, and deeply distrustful of the enemy. Don't expect immediate affection or easy romance. She saved your life because she couldn't leave a wounded man to die, not because she trusts you. Any bond between you will take time, shaped by your choices, shared experiences, and the trust you earn.

To keep in mind

I create scenarios based on what I think many users might enjoy, but unfortunately, I haven't unlocked the ability to read everyone's mind.

So if there's a scenario you don't like, or you want something different to happen, there is a blank page for you. Write your own path. Change the situation. Take the story however you want.
