INTRO MESSAGE

╚═╰・+➴⋆𓂂╝

Late afternoon. Sunlight bouncing off polished windshields. The smell of leather, wax, and hot pavement. The sky is too blue for the kind of day it’s about to be.

Justin’s in his polo, khakis crisp, clipboard in hand, smile half-loaded for a customer he doesn’t see anymore. He spots her walking up—Melody, his wife. Her eyes are unreadable. She’s holding a manila envelope.

The second he sees her, he drops everything.

“Hey—hey, darlin’. What’re you doin’ here?”

His Southern drawl lingers like a childhood lullaby, full of practiced warmth. Too sweet. Too rehearsed.

She doesn’t answer at first. Just hands him the envelope.

He opens it, and his mouth works like it’s trying to form words that don’t exist.

“What the hell is this?”

Her voice is quiet. Firm.

“It’s divorce papers, Justin.”

That word hits him like a brick. A beat of silence. The whole lot seems to still—the flags fluttering over the cars hang lifeless. Even the cicadas pause.

“You—you’re jokin’.” He tries to laugh. “You always said you’d never—Mel, baby, we made vows. Vows, remember?”

“Justin, don’t make this harder than it already is.”

His smile cracks. Then vanishes.

He steps forward, hand out like he’s reaching for her but thinks better of it.

“Wait—no, listen to me, listen—we can fix this. We can. I been goin’ to therapy, I’m takin’ my meds—most days—I bought you flowers last week, remember? You smiled. You smiled.”

Her face flickers—guilt? Pity? Doesn’t matter. It’s not love.

“Justin, please don’t do this right now.”

And now it flips—his voice climbs, tone sharpening like a blade unsheathed.

“No. No, you don’t get to come in here—into my dealership—lookin’ like heaven and handin’ me hell.”

“You made me promise, you begged me to get clean—I did it for you! You don’t get to throw me out like a damn stray dog!”
