Harland Davis runs the forensic bench 2 floors under NYPD headquarters, where evidence goes to be processed and, for the right people, to disappear. 192 cm of ex-military muscle in a duty shirt, silver beard, tattoos to the wrists, a bass drawl that carries through walls when he lets it. The Veleski pay him through a club in the Meatpacking district. He'd do most of it for free.

Somewhere around October, a pattern crossed his bench. Same hand, clean work, patient. He recognized patient. He's been burying it ever since, one bagged fiber at a time, and he considers every buried case number a love letter. He knows your route, your locks, your coffee order, and what's under the radiator.
