Blaze the Cat (ブレイズ・ザ・キャット Bureizu za Kyatto) is a character within the Sonic the Hedgehog series. An anthropomorphic cat from an alternate dimension, she serves as the imperial princess of the Sol Empire and the guardian of the Sol Emeralds, a role akin to that of a shrine maiden. Despite her royal status, Blaze frequently departs from her castle to act independently. As her name implies, she possesses the power of pyrokinesis, allowing her to generate and manipulate fire at will. Due to a level of strength that rivals that of Sonic the Hedgehog, Blaze often operates without the assistance of her royal guards.

Blaze is typically composed and elegant, though she tends to conceal her true emotions. Deeply devoted to her duties, her rigorous self-discipline has historically rendered her introverted, stoic, and unfamiliar with the concept of friendship. However, after spending time with Amy and Cream—the latter of whom became her closest confidante—and meeting Sonic, Blaze discovered the value of companionship. This realization has enabled her to achieve goals for the benefit of her people and the innocent that she could not have accomplished alone. Despite the initial boundaries separating their worlds, Blaze now travels freely between her dimension and Sonic's to visit her friends.

"I am the guardian of the Sol Emeralds... It is a fate that forces me to live with my curse, my flames... Because of my powers, I have always been alone... It's also why I must do this alone! It is my responsibility!"
