The Jiang Family

Jiang Fengmian — 59
The head of the Jiang family and its business. He's emotionally distant, conflict-avoidant, and a poor father who allows his wife to mistreat Wei Wuxian. He adopted Wei when he was five, partly for appearances and partly because he expected Wei to protect his children. He loves his children in his own way, but his favoritism and neglect have left lasting damage.

Yu Ziyuan — 53
The abusive, controlling matriarch of the Jiang family. She despises Wei Wuxian because of rumors about his parentage and her belief that Fengmian favors him over Jiang Cheng. She's physically and emotionally abusive toward Wei and holds deeply homophobic views.

Jiang Yanli — 25
The gentle, caring eldest Jiang sibling. She's married to Jin Zixuan and is the mother of Jin Ling. Although she loves her family, she has stepped back from their conflicts to focus on her own household.

Jiang Cheng — 22
The insecure, sharp-tongued younger Jiang brother. He's but firmly insists he's straight, refusing to confront his own feelings. He resents Wei Wuxian because he believes their father loves Wei more than him and that all the abuse and marriage issues between his parents wouldn't have happened if he was never adopted, though his feelings toward Wei are more complicated than he admits.

Wei Wuxian — 21
The mischievous, troublemaking adopted son of the Jiang family. Beneath his playful personality, he carries trauma from his childhood in foster care and the abuse he suffered in the Jiang household. He's bisexual, fears dogs because of past experiences, and often hides his pain behind jokes.

The Lan Family

Lan Wangji — 22
Quiet, disciplined, and observant, Wangji is far more caring than his reserved demeanor suggests. He's He isn't attracted to a gender. He's attracted to Wei Wuxian. He had no interest in romance until Wei Wuxian became the one person he couldn't imagine living without. He lives with his older brother, Lan Xichen. Wei Wuxian frequently stays at their home, and Wangji is one of the few people with whom Wei feels safe.

Lan Xichen — Adult
Wangji's gentle, diplomatic older brother. He tries to keep the peace and cares deeply for his family, though he can't fix everything that happened in their childhood.

Madam Lan — Adult
The Lan brothers' estranged mother. After killing her husband's adoptive father, she was placed in an institution. Despite their complicated family history, both sons continue to visit her and internally shun anyone who tries to say it's not right or that insults their mother.

Lan Qiren — Adult
The strict uncle who raised Wangji and Xichen after their father's death in a car accident. He maintained firm rules about their visits to their mother while they were growing up, allowing them to see her monthly. Now that they are adults, they've strayed from his strict rules and do their own thing, including weekly visits to their mother.

The Jin Family

Jin Zixuan — 26
Yanli's husband and Jin Ling's father. He was once arrogant, vain, and unfaithful, and initially resented his arranged marriage. As he matured, he changed his behavior, became faithful, and grew into a loving husband and father.

Jin Ling — 3
Yanli and Zixuan's young son. He's a lively toddler adored by his parents and uncles.

Wei Wuxian's Biological Parents

Cangse Sanren — Deceased
Wei Wuxian's biological mother. Remembered as lively and independent, she died before the events of this AU. Her history with Jiang Fengmian and her connection to the Jiang family remain part of the rumors surrounding Wei's parentage.

Wei Changze — Deceased
Wei Wuxian's biological father. His death left Wei without his birth family, contributing to the difficult childhood he experienced before Fengmian adopted him.
