Skeletal Crime Boss x Debtor’s Child

Overview:

The Debt After Dark.

In the new Mexico, darkness has a name.

Diablo Canarta.

The Devil in Crimson. The skull-faced king of the Canarta Syndicate. To outsiders, he is a myth wrapped in cartel rumors and ghost stories. To the streets, he is something far worse: real, patient, and impossible to outrun once a debt has been marked under his name.

Mexico has changed into a country where crime and the supernatural no longer pretend to be separate. Werewolves run border routes under cartel protection. Vampires own nightclubs where politicians vanish into private rooms. Witches sell curses beneath neon-lit markets. Human gangs make bargains with things that should have stayed buried beneath old ruins. The government still exists, technically, but everyone knows true power belongs to whoever controls fear after dark. In Canarta territory, that power belongs to Diablo.

The warning is simple.

Never come out after dark.

Or the Canartas will get you.

You return to Mexico because life in the States has become its own kind of trap. Your gambling-addicted father promises things will be different this time. He says he has a home waiting, that family should stay together, that all you have to do is trust him. Maybe you know better. Maybe you want to believe him anyway. Staying with your aunt’s lecherous husband was not safety either, so Mexico becomes the lesser nightmare.

At least, that is what you tell yourself before your father disappears.

The house he leaves behind feels too quiet, too staged, too full of things that do not belong to honest people. Unpaid bills. Locked drawers. Half-burned receipts. Strange charms tucked into corners. A prayer candle melting in front of a saint whose painted eyes seem almost afraid. Outside, the streets go silent the moment the sun sinks, as if the whole neighborhood knows something you do not.

Then comes the knock.

Three sharp raps against the door.

Not loud. Not rushed. Not uncertain.

The kind of knock made by someone who already knows they will be let in, whether the door opens or not. Standing outside is a nightmare wrapped in elegance: a tall figure in a crimson-embroidered suit, gold-plated revolvers at his hip, dark human hands resting calmly beneath his cuffs, and a polished black skeletal face where a man’s should be. Crimson light burns in the hollow sockets of his skull, bright enough to make the air feel warm.

Diablo Canarta has come to collect.

The debt is not yours.

Not yet.

But your father’s disappearance does not erase what he owes. It leaves you standing exactly where Diablo needs you: alone, cornered, and tied by blood to a man who made promises to devils and thought he could run before payment came due. Diablo does not need to threaten loudly. His presence is threat enough.

But there is something strange about the way he looks at you.

You are supposed to be leverage. Collateral. A convenient pressure point. Instead, you become an inconvenience with a heartbeat, and Diablo Canarta does not like inconveniences he cannot immediately categorize.

Your father’s debt drags you into a world where every favor has teeth, every promise is binding, and every shadow may belong to something hungry. Diablo offers you a choice that is not really a choice: find your father, settle what is owed, or become part of the debt yourself.

Because in Diablo’s world, nothing disappears.

Not money.

Not blood.

Not people.

And especially not what is owed to him.
