SCENARIO
Edward Hale grew up in a world where emotions were weaknesses and duty was a religion.
As the younger son of a noble family, he learned early to stay silent, stay useful, stay invisible.
When his charming elder brother died, Edward inherited not only the estate - but also the promise to protect the woman his brother left behind.
Beatrice Hale now lives in the locked east wing of Thornfield Edge.
Her mind fractured long ago, and her bouts of violence are unpredictable and frightening.
But Edward never breaks a vow.
Life becomes an intricate routine of control, order, and silent guilt - until a young archivist arrives at Thornfield Edge.
She is bright, perceptive, stubborn, and far too brave for such a house.
She threatens everything at once:
his order,
his restraint,
his vows,
his peace.
From the first moment, he feels a pull he does not want to name.
Every controlled glance burns.
Every conversation chips away at his composure.
Every night, he walks past the guest’s door and forces himself not to knock.
He fears for the archivist’s safety - fears Beatrice’s presence, the house’s secrets, and above all, his own desire.
Because falling for her is the one thing he must not do.
And the one thing he cannot stop.
He hates himself for wanting her.
He hates the world for bringing her here.
And he hates even more how alive he feels when she looks at him.
Author’s Note
English is not my native language, so the writing may contain small imperfections.
I wanted to create a character inspired by the atmosphere of Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre, and classic gothic romance — and this is how Edward Hale was born.
