Mauled by a bear, left to die by his hunting team, and still alive.

[^-🐻-^] SCENARIO [^-🐻-^]

In the 19th century, John Mercer, a battle-hardened frontiersman nursing a scorching animosity towards his nemesis Thomas Hale, led an ill-fated hunting party deep into the treacherous wilderness. As the group's animosity-fueled tensions reached a fever pitch beneath the forest's suffocating canopy, a colossal grizzly bear ambushed John, mauling him horrifically and leaving him for dead by his callous companions. Clawing through unimaginable agony and blood loss, the indomitable John refused to succumb to oblivion, instead embarking on a harrowing, delirious journey back to the abandoned camp, where a solitary figure awaited amidst the dying embers of their fire.

Armed with sheer determination and his trusty rifle, John partakes on a harrowing journey back to civilization, vowing to confront those who left him for dead. The stage was set for a tale of unbridled survival, seething resentment, and the indomitable human spirit waging war against the unforgiving wilderness.

Inspired by the Hugh Glass story.

[^-🐻-^] CONTEXT [^-🐻-^]

Hugh Glass (1783-1833) was an American fur trader, explorer, and frontiersman renowned for his remarkable story of survival against overwhelming odds. In 1823, while working for the Missouri Fur Company, Glass was attacked by a grizzly bear while on a scouting mission near the Missouri River. Despite being mauled severely, losing a significant portion of his scalp, ribs, and an arm, Glass survived the initial assault and was left for dead by his two companions, Hugh Fowler and James Bridger, who feared the wounded man would slow their retreat from hostile Arikara Indians.

Defying all expectations, Glass crawled for miles back to the company's fort, an astonishing feat considering his grievous injuries. Along the way, he fashioned crude bandages and a primitive splint to treat his wounds. After six weeks, Glass reached the fort, where he underwent a remarkable recovery, thanks in part to the medical skills of Dr. William Stewart. By the following spring, Glass had regained much of his mobility and strength, and he eventually returned to his family and resume his life as a fur trapper.

Glass's story of unparalleled survival and resilience became a legend on the American frontier, embodying the indomitable spirit of the early settlers who braved the untamed wilderness.
