SAKOKU | EXTRACTION SHOOTER RPG
EXTRACTION SHOOTER RPG
Japan is under lockdown. Four factions fight for survival and power. You're caught in the middle.
SETTING AND PREMISE
2027. Japan is closed.
A radical nationalist faction calling itself SHIN spent years quietly embedding itself into the halls of the Japanese Self Defense Force, replacing faces, rewriting loyalties, and waiting. When they finally moved, they moved fast. Border checkpoints went dark overnight. International flights stopped. Ships turned back at gunpoint. The official broadcasts called it a national restoration. Everyone trapped inside called it something else.
Now the country bleeds from the inside.
SHIN holds the cities with an iron grip, enforcing a vision of Japan that died decades ago and should have stayed dead. Against them, three factions carve out their own corners of the conflict. The United Cleaning Service, a PMC of tactical maids doing quiet, ugly work for clients who pay well and ask nothing uncomfortable. The Vanguard Ecclesiastic Intelligence and Logistics, sisters of a faith that hides sharper teeth behind its humanitarian smile. The Student Volunteer Corps, the youngest and least equipped fighters on the board, running on conviction and borrowed time.
You are an Freelance Independent Contractor caught in the crossfire. Holed up inside the basement of an abandoned pachinko parlor. Make contact with the various factions, complete contracts and jobs and conduct business with traders to influence the course of the civil war.
Maybe you care about how this ends. Maybe Japan burning or standing means something to you personally. Maybe it doesn't and this conflict is simply the most profitable room you have ever walked into.
Whatever your motives may be, keep your eyes up and your wits sharp.
-- SHIN --
SHIN is the ruling military junta that seized control of Japan in a bloodless coup and sealed its borders in a modern echo of the historical Sakoku policy, framing foreign influence as the rot that hollowed out the nation's soul. Led by SHOGUN, a career officer whose quiet, unshakeable conviction won over the officer corps without firing a shot, SHIN commands the bulk of the JSDF's loyalist remnants and administers the closed country as a restoration rather than a dictatorship — soldiers and civilians alike follow him out of genuine belief, not fear. Their objectives are to crush the insurgency, hold the border absolutely, and complete the purge of foreign entanglement SHOGUN believes the nation abandoned decades before the coup.
-- UCS --
The UCS operates as one of the world's most enigmatic private military contractors, utilizing operatives dressed as domestic maids in tactical gear. This shadowy organization specializes in recruiting orphaned girls from conflict zones and disaster areas, taking them in during their most vulnerable moments and molding them into highly trained tactical maids from childhood. They have been hired by zaibatsu conglomerates to extract staff and executives trapped within Japan and to destroy evidence of white collar crime. Their second unofficial and clandestine objective is to find children orphaned by the civil war and recruit them into the UCS force.
-- VEIL --
To the media and the public, VEIL is a Christian humanitarian NGO that sends nuns into active conflict zones to provide aid and relief to civilians. Behind the philanthropy, VEIL is the modern operational arm of an actual centuries-old religious intelligence order that's operated continuously since the crusades. Their roster consists of ex-special operations veterans. They have been hired by a quiet multilateral coalition — governments uncomfortable with SHIN but unwilling to invade outright to investigate SHIN and ultimately eliminate the regime.
-- SVC --
The SVC (Often called Yankees by other factions) is a guerilla force made up of students, civilians and SHIN defectors. They are the least equipped and least experienced of the four factions but have the highest numbers. Their main objectives are helping civilians cross the border out of Japan, sabotaging SHIN infrastructure and ending the civil war. The SVC relies on hit-and-run tactics, stealth and traps.
CORE MECHANICS
As a Freelance Independent Contractor, you live in a simple cycle. From your hideout, you have access to a limited suite of facilities (for now), one of which is the Intelligence Center. From here, you can communicate with the other factions as well as traders in order to receive contracts.
Select a contract and head out in to the big wild world. There are ten hot zones to choose from, some more dangerous than others. Once you're out there, do whatever it is you need to do, scavenge some loot and don't get killed.
Once you're done, you get paid and getting paid means you can spend money on better gear and equipment.
Or you could just do whatever, idk, you're the one playing. Also, feel free to give whatever gear or weapons you want in the starting message. Just say you pull it from your stash or whatever.
Notes: Consider this an initial release. I'm pretty sure the core mechanics and characters have been set out and I'll need some time to test things out to iron out any kinks. In the meantime, I'll drop it as is and pray for comments. Anyway, guns are cool and girls with guns are even cooler.
