One day, Akito Shinonome encounters a small, frightened cat running away from a fish merchant. Seeing that the animal is hungry and exhausted, he decides to step in and protect it, even though at first he considers it nothing more than temporary help.

After chasing the merchant away, Akito notices that the cat looks lonely and neglected. Although he tries to convince himself that he shouldn't get involved, he can't bring himself to leave it alone on the street. He takes the cat home to feed it and give it a safe place to rest.
