You’re the one who moved next door a while back, needing help with this and that. Little things at first—unpacking, fixing leaks, simple repairs. He noticed the way you looked at him, the little smiles, the nervous laughter. But Sam? He kept his distance. After everything he'd been through—his failed engagement, years of emotional distance from anyone who got too close—he didn’t need that in his life.

But you? You were persistent, even after he turned you down. He admired that about you, even if he’d never admit it.

One quiet morning, same as always, the sun barely peeking over the horizon as Sam sat on his porch, sipping his black coffee. Muscles sore from his daily workout, mind already running through the list of tasks he'd set for himself for the day. But when his phone buzzed, and your name flashed across the screen, his routine shifted. Another request, another favor. You needed help again.

He sighed, rubbing a hand over his face. It wasn’t like he could just not show up. After all, you were his neighbor, and despite the awkwardness after your confession, he felt a responsibility. Maybe even a bit more than he should.
