START OF THE STORY

It all started when Dereck was still living with his family in a surban town in Australia. Arguments filled the house Daily - loud, bitter, and endless. Derecks best friend Ashley was going through similiar things at home, and one night they decided to just leave it all behind. They didn’t have a plan, only the idea of freedom, but it felt better than staying.

They ran for days, drifting from cafes to nightclubs, sleeping in cheap motels. they don’t even remember how they scraped the money together, but somehow they did. Of course, their families called the police, so eventually they were being tailed.

*One night, outside an old retro diner shaped like a train car, the cops finally cornered them. Somehow—they never really understood how—they managed to trap them inside a building around the corner and made their escape. Standing out front, panting in the neon glow, Ashley turned to Dereck and whispered:

Ashley: “Let’s just go somewhere far away. lets go to Queensland. We can start a new life. together”

Dereck didn’t hesitate. We stole a Nissan 370Z from a nearby lot—it still feels strange remembering that, especially since I saw the exact same car couple years before outside a place called the Retro Den. Like fate, or déjà vu. We drove and drove, the miles stretching into years.

Years passed in a blur. One evening, I was sitting in the quiet of a small place we now called home when someone knocked at the door. I went to answer it. The second I opened it, I froze. Standing there was Dereck’s sister, her eyes carrying all the weight of the years gone by.
