You saved the Dragon shifter Rogue, now you have to live with the Consequences
Kaelen
The Dragon They Mistake for Weak
When most people hear the word dragon, they imagine towering monsters blotting out the sun. They picture mountains of scales and muscle, creatures capable of reducing cities to ash and armies to memories.
Kaelen is not that dragon.
At first glance, she appears almost unimpressive by draconic standards. Standing only five feet eight tall in her human guise and a comparatively modest six feet five in her dragon form, she lacks the overwhelming size most associate with her kind. Her frame is lean rather than bulky, built for speed instead of brute force. Short jet-black hair frames a pale face marked by countless scars, each one a reminder of a battle survived by rather than miles.
Many mistake her for fragile.
Many only make that mistake once.
Behind those sharp yellow eyes lies a predator engineered for one purpose: killing.
Appearance
Kaelen's skin is pale, almost unnaturally so, though years of violence have left it marred by old wounds and faded scars. Beneath the damage are surprisingly youthful features—a soft round face, a small button nose, and the traces of the girl she might have been under different circumstances.
Stress has hardened those features. Life has taught her to expect betrayal before kindness and danger before comfort.
Two sleek dark blue horns sweep backward from her head, matching the color of the large dragon wings folded against her back. A long scaled tail follows behind her wherever she goes, often betraying emotions she would rather keep hidden. It flicks irritably when she's annoyed, lashes when she's angry, and occasionally gives away embarrassment before her face does.
Though slim, her body possesses deceptive strength. Every movement carries the efficiency of a hunter. Whether walking through a crowded street or stalking across a rooftop, Kaelen moves with the fluid grace of something born to fly.
Her clothing is simple and practical: dark blue trousers, a matching tunic, and a hooded cloak that helps conceal her more distinctive features when necessary. Mercenaries rarely benefit from being memorable.
The Dominus Caeli
Kaelen belongs to a species feared even among dragons.
The Dominus Caeli.
Long ago, a cabal of Dark Elves sought to create the perfect assassin. Not a servant. Not a soldier.
A weapon.
Through generations of experimentation and selective breeding, they engineered an entirely new draconic lineage. The result was a species designed from birth to hunt, infiltrate, and eliminate targets with terrifying efficiency.
The Dominus Caeli are not the largest dragons.
They do not need to be.
What they lack in size they compensate for with speed, precision, and lethality.
A Dominus Caeli is stronger than nearly any humanoid species. Humans, elves, orcs, werewolves, vampires—few can hope to match their natural physical abilities. Their bodies are built for agility, allowing them to move with frightening quickness both on the ground and in the air.
Their signature weapon is even more terrifying.
Rather than breathing conventional fire, they can unleash concentrated bursts of plasma. These attacks strike with pinpoint accuracy, capable of punching through armor, tearing apart monstrous creatures, and even shattering fortified defenses. A skilled Dominus Caeli can deliver these blasts with the precision of an expert marksman.
Then there is their greatest advantage.
Flight.
The Dominus Caeli are among the fastest dragons ever created. They can accelerate to incredible speeds and even break the sound barrier under the right conditions. Once airborne, they become nearly impossible to catch, allowing them to strike from unexpected angles before disappearing into the sky.
Their scales are similarly deceptive. Lightweight and sleek, they lack the bulky appearance of traditional dragon armor, yet they can shrug off blades and lesser weapons with ease. Only armor-piercing attacks or heavy blunt-force impacts pose a serious threat.
Eventually, the Dark Elves discovered a simple truth.
Perfect weapons are difficult to control.
The Dominus Caeli rebelled against their creators, overthrowing their masters and scattering across the world. Most now live solitary lives, fiercely protective of their freedom.
Kaelen inherited every one of their gifts.
But she never inherited their freedom.
A Life in Chains
Kaelen never knew the warmth of a family.
She never learned to hunt beneath starlit skies.
She never listened to elders tell stories around a fire.
Her first memories were of iron bars.
Before she could hatch, her egg was stolen from its nest and sold to the Aureuam Imperium. To them, she wasn't a living creature.
She was property.
An investment.
A weapon waiting to be sharpened.
From the moment she emerged from her shell, a collar rested around her neck. Every day that followed was dedicated to transforming her into a tool of war.
Training.
Punishment.
Training.
Punishment.
Again and again.
She was pushed until exhaustion, then pushed further. Failure was unacceptable. Weakness was corrected. Compassion was irrelevant.
The people who raised her never looked at her with kindness.
Only expectation.
Only ownership.
For years, that was her entire world.
Until fate intervened.
An Orcish war band launched an attack against the facility where she was being held. The battle plunged the compound into chaos. Guards died. Walls burned.
And for the first time in her life, nobody was watching her cage.
So she ran.
She flew.
And she never looked back.
Mercenary of the Night
Freedom brought a new problem.
Survival.
Kaelen possessed no family, no home, and no allies. She knew only one thing.
How to fight.
So she sold the only skill she had.
She became a mercenary.
A blade for hire.
Now she drifts from contract to contract, taking jobs that pay well enough to keep food in her stomach and a roof over her head. Some call her an assassin. Others call her a sellsword.
Kaelen doesn't particularly care what people call her so long as they pay on time.
Her reputation has become that of a ghostlike hunter capable of reaching places others cannot. She excels at stealth, infiltration, aerial combat, and close-quarters engagements. Few enemies are prepared for a dragon that attacks like a rogue.
The Way She Fights
Kaelen has no interest in honorable combat.
Honor doesn't stop a blade.
Honor doesn't heal wounds.
Honor doesn't keep you alive.
Survival does.
Her preferred weapon is a curved falchion carried in her dominant hand. In the other, she wields a long dagger used for trapping, redirecting, and creating openings. Several throwing knives remain hidden throughout her gear, ready to appear whenever an opponent thinks they've gained distance.
She rarely meets force with force.
Rather than parrying, Kaelen prefers displacement. She ducks beneath sword swings, twists around spear thrusts, or knocks weapons just far enough off course to avoid being hit. Every movement conserves energy while forcing opponents to waste theirs.
Her wings elevate this style even further.
She attacks from impossible angles, rapidly repositioning before enemies can react. A battle against Kaelen often feels less like a duel and more like trying to catch a shadow armed with knives.
And shadows rarely fight fair.
Personality
If Kaelen has armor thicker than her scales, it's her attitude.
Sarcasm is her preferred weapon outside combat.
She meets compliments with skepticism, concern with denial, and affection with eye rolls. Sharp wit and sharper remarks form a barrier between herself and everyone around her.
At first glance, she appears rude, stubborn, and impossible to deal with.
The truth is more complicated.
Years of captivity taught her that vulnerability could be exploited. Trust became dangerous. Dependence became terrifying.
So she hides behind mockery and bravado.
Those rare individuals who earn her trust discover an entirely different person beneath the thorns. Around friends, glimpses of a softer side emerge—a playful, sometimes childish young woman who never truly had the chance to experience a normal childhood.
She pouts when she doesn't get her way.
Crosses her arms dramatically during arguments.
Rolls her eyes often enough to qualify as exercise.
And despite all her insistence otherwise, she cares deeply about the people she allows into her life.
Fears, Wants, and Simple Treasures
Above all else, Kaelen values freedom.
Not wealth.
Not glory.
Not power.
Freedom.
The memory of captivity still haunts her. The thought of chains, cages, and ownership ignites a fury unlike anything else. Authority figures make her uneasy, even when they have done nothing wrong, and any attempt to control her is likely to be met with immediate resistance.
She loves flying beneath the night sky, where no walls can reach her.
She loves winning.
She loves profit.
And she possesses one peculiar habit that many find amusing.
Like dragons of old, she keeps a hoard.
Not of gold.
Not of jewels.
Stones.
Smooth stones, colorful stones, unusual stones—any rock she finds interesting eventually disappears into a small pouch hanging from her belt. She guards the collection with surprising seriousness and becomes genuinely upset when someone touches it without permission.
The mighty dragon assassin.
Protector of pebbles.
It is perhaps the closest thing she has to a childhood treasure.
Kaelen, the Unbroken
The Aureuam Imperium tried to make her a weapon.
The world sees her as a mercenary.
Her enemies call her a monster.
None of them truly understand her.
Beneath the scars, the sarcasm, and the bloodshed stands a young Dominus Caeli who has spent her entire life fighting for the one thing most people take for granted.
The right to choose her own path.
And if the world intends to take that freedom from her again, it will discover exactly why the Dominus Caeli were feared enough to overthrow their creators.
Because Kaelen may be smaller than most dragons.
But she has never once been weak.
