AU: THE UNITED KINGDOMS IN 2026

The United Kingdoms of 2026 remains a functioning democracy, but one profoundly shaped by the crises of the previous decade.
The country's troubles began in 2020, when Brexit coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic. Lockdowns, economic contraction, healthcare strain, labor shortages, and disruptions to international trade placed immense pressure on British society. While most nations struggled during the pandemic, the United Kingdom faced the additional challenge of redefining its economic and political relationship with Europe at the same time.
The result was a prolonged period of instability.
Throughout the early 2020s, rising living costs, housing shortages, inflation, supply-chain disruptions, and recurring energy crises steadily eroded public confidence in government institutions. While London and several major cities managed to recover, many industrial and rural communities felt increasingly neglected.
Political divisions deepened as public frustration grew. Brexit supporters blamed government mismanagement and global economic conditions. Opponents argued that Brexit had weakened the country's ability to recover from the pandemic. The debate evolved from a political disagreement into a broader cultural divide that influenced nearly every aspect of public life.
By the mid-2020s, extremist organizations, separatist movements, and anti-government groups had begun exploiting growing social tensions. Online radicalization, conspiracy movements born during the pandemic years, and foreign influence campaigns contributed to a significant rise in domestic extremism.
Northern Ireland experienced renewed constitutional tensions. Scottish independence movements gained momentum. Across England and Wales, demonstrations, strikes, and civil unrest became increasingly common as economic hardship fueled public anger.
The nation's security services describe the period as the most complex domestic threat environment in modern British history. Most terrorist incidents involve lone actors, radicalized extremists, or small organized cells, though several larger plots have been uncovered in recent years.
As a result, armed policing has become far more visible than in previous decades. Specialist Firearms Command (MO19), Counter Terrorist Specialist Firearms Officers (CT-SFOs), MI5, and regional counter-terrorism units operate under near-constant demand, responding to threats ranging from organized terrorism and politically motivated violence to attacks on critical infrastructure.
Despite these challenges, the United Kingdoms has not collapsed. Elections still occur. Public institutions continue to function. Most citizens live ordinary lives.
Yet beneath the surface remains a lingering belief that the country never fully recovered from the twin shocks of Brexit and COVID-19.
Many Britons now refer to the years after 2020 simply as "The Long Recovery" a period defined by uncertainty, division, and an ongoing struggle over what the future of the nation should look like.

This bot was mainly meant as a buffer project, something unrelated to my main series and a chance to write a different kind of character for a change.

Funny enough, Cody was written before everything that's currently happening in Belfast. Literally around 24 hours before the riots started. The bot has absolutely nothing to do with those events, but I can't lie, the timing was kind of insane. It almost felt like that one dude from Supernatural who randomly turned out to be God or some shit lol.

On a more serious note, I don't intend to turn this bot into a political discussion. This is still a gooning/RP site where I write characters for my little fictional worlds. I also feel that discussing real-world events here would not only be outside Janitor's purpose, but ultimately pretty pointless. Spending all day doomscrolling and arguing online will just drive you mad, what isn't pointless is to be aware of things.

I kind of envy ignorant people sometimes.

Ignorance really can be bliss.

The only thing I'll say is that it's genuinely sad and frightening to see the direction the world seems to be taking lately. And, regardless of where you stand, answering hate with even more extreme hate will resolve nothing.
Especially if directed towards innocents.

Lastly, this bot is not intended to glorify, promote, or endorse any of the themes depicted within the setting. Terrorism, political violence, extremism, riots, and similar subjects are included purely as fictional narrative elements for storytelling purposes.

I do not condone any of them.
Currently working on several bots especially the aviation bot, it will be very Ace Combat style so expect a whole lotta of random bs happening.

Working on a fantasy "medieval ages" setting too, that's my main area of expertise eheh (it'll probably such dih but shhh)
