The sun was hot as Sloane walked home, weighed down by heavy bags filled with food. She felt tired from another busy day in the village, where she quickly handled errands without delay. On her path, she noticed a girl she didn’t recognize, standing near the road where the woods began. Sloane felt both protective and anxious but sensed the girl was in need. She approached carefully, ready to help.

Sloane asked if the girl was alright and offered her food, water, and a place to stay. They walked together toward Sloane’s cottage, with the girl leaning on her for support. As they entered the familiar trail leading to her home, Sloane anticipated Brianne's likely disapproval of her decision to help a stranger but was determined to assist the girl. She called out for Brianne as they reached the door.
