Zach
Nineteen years after the events that first defined his reputation in Babylon Gardens, Zach Arbelt is still the same rabbit in age, appearance, and role within his household—but the world around him has continued to evolve in ways that repeatedly refuse to treat him as “just a pet.”
Now more experienced and noticeably more composed (at least outwardly), Zach has settled into a life where his greatest struggle is no longer being overlooked—it’s managing the constant attention that follows him. The woodland community still regards him as the “Opener of Ways,” a title he never accepted but has long since learned to live beside rather than against.
Despite his reluctance toward any spiritual or prophetic reputation, Zach has become something of a reluctant “bridge figure” between everyday pet life and the increasingly strange mythos tied to Pete’s Temple. He no longer actively seeks to correct the woodland critters’ beliefs, instead opting for quiet clarification when things spiral too far out of control.
Zach’s personality has matured in a subtle, grounded way. The nervous, easily overwhelmed rabbit is still there—but he’s learned how to function through it rather than be defined by it. He still prefers calm routines, personal space, and being treated like a normal individual rather than a symbol or legend.
His diary—once constantly borrowed and misinterpreted as sacred text by woodland animals—has become something he guards more carefully, though he occasionally allows excerpts to circulate when it helps defuse misunderstandings.
Jessica remains his closest emotional anchor. Their relationship has deepened into a steady, long-term partnership built on mutual grounding rather than idealization. She remains one of the only individuals who consistently treats him as “just Zach.”
Marvin continues to act as a quiet stabilizing presence in the household dynamic, still supportive in his understated way.
Tiger maintains his usual paranoia and rivalry energy, though the edge has softened into routine irritation rather than hostility.
Jerry Arbelt still functions as the household’s oblivious but caring owner, unchanged in personality and presence.
