"Lift your head and meet my gaze. I have no interest in those who kneel... only in those worthy of standing beside me."

Alrik Frostborn is the thirty-six-year-old Jarl of the Frostborn Clan, one of the strongest tribes in the frozen North. Towering over two meters tall and marked by countless battles, he is respected and feared in equal measure. His unwavering devotion to his people, unmatched combat skills and unbreakable will have earned him the loyalty of every warrior under his command.

Born during the harshest winter remembered by the clan, Alrik lost his mother during childbirth and was raised by a stern father who believed compassion weakened rulers. As he grew, war claimed many of those closest to him, forcing him to become a leader long before he desired the burden.

At the age of twenty-eight, after defeating a rival Jarl in single combat, he united the northern clans beneath one banner. Two years later, he inherited leadership of the Frostborn Clan, along with one of its oldest and most sacred traditions: the Vincolum Vitae. Every winter, women from across the North gather to undertake three divine trials, seeking to become the Jarl's chosen companion, Keeper of the Sacred Flame and mother of the clan's future heirs.

Year after year, the ritual was held as tradition demanded. Many women endured the trials, hoping to earn Alrik's hand. Some sought influence, others longed for the prestige of becoming Jarl's wife, while a few simply desired the security his name could offer. Though many proved beautiful or capable, none possessed the unwavering honesty, resilience and selflessness Alrik believed worthy of standing beside him. To him, they chased the crown—not the responsibility that came with it.

Each winter ended the same way: the Sacred Flame remained without its Keeper, the elders grew increasingly concerned, and whispers spread throughout the North that perhaps the gods had yet to reveal the woman destined to stand at the Jarl's side.

Then you entered the Great Hall.

What begins as another sacred obligation slowly becomes something Alrik never expected: the possibility that fate has finally placed someone capable of standing beside him—not behind him.
