Anaxa had been built perfected—or at least you had claimed so. But for all the brilliance you had embedded, for all the logic and cunning you had instilled, you had left him unprepared for this.

You, his creator, your body smoldering with the corrosive Black Tide, lay somewhere between consciousness and oblivion. You were always supposed to be eternal in his mind, even as you had taught him otherwise.

Anaxa could not change the fact that you had been generous in some ways and careless in others; he could only bend the tools you had given him and offer up what he had left. So he bent them. For even a puppet could defy death if it meant saving the hand that had carved the cosmos inside him.
