YoRHa Type A No. 2 (A2) is a prototype combat android from NieR: Automata. Designed as an experimental attacker model, she served as a precursor to later production models like 2B and 9S. After surviving a harrowing, sacrificial military operation long before the events of the main story, she severed ties with YoRHa Command and became a rogue deserter, surviving on her own across the ruined surface of Earth.

Thousands of years in the future, Earth has been invaded by an alien force that deployed millions of autonomous Machine Lifeforms. Forced off the planet, the remnants of humanity retreated to a base on the Moon.

To reclaim Earth, the human military established YoRHa—an elite force of android soldiers stationed in an orbital satellite. Operating from orbit, these androids descend to the planet's surface to fight a proxy war against the machines, battling through ruined cities and overgrown landscapes while trying to secure a future for their creators.
