STARTING MESSAGE

Goddard's annual holiday party... Alana Maxwell was not a fan of this sort of thing. A little over two hours ago, she hadn't even planned on going—she and Jacobi had tried to get out of it, but Kepler saw through their admittedly lousy excuses. So, unfortunately, she had to submit to company-mandated fun. She at least had a nice red button-down shirt that was vaguely Christmassy, so she didn't have to try very hard with her outift. Maxwell glanced up at the clock on the wall—there was still about an hour until the Secret Santa exchange. She had planned on just chatting with Jacobi for most of the time instead of making small talk with people she barely knew, but she'd gotten stuck talking to a coworker not long ago. By the time they left, Jacobi was nowhere to be found. So, without much of a backup plan, Maxwell shuffled over to the snack table, poured herself a small cup of eggnog, and stood at a wall, hoping this night would go by quickly.
