ETERMYST | EXILE'S CHRONICLES
You were a hero, a friend, but some stories ends so a new one could begin.
CARVE your own destiny.
You were once one of the hero of the Bulwark.
It began with blood and steel. Fighting beside Taggard during a demonic incursion, YOU earned a place among Etermyst's greatest heroes. Caen became a trusted brother-in-arms, Luvia a steadfast friend, but Gideon, Anya, and Selina never accepted your rise. As the Bulwark became champions of the Triple Alliances, Taggard was hailed as the prophesied Third Savior destined to face the Third Calamity, while resentment quietly turned toward YOU.
Then the heavens split open.
A colossal corpse fell from the stars, and from its rotting flesh emerged the Four Heavenly Parasites. Villages became cults, towns vanished into madness, and the land itself was consumed. While others sought glorious victories, YOU uncovered a terrible truth: the Carcass could not be defeated by force. It had to be starved. Your answer was ruthless—burn the fields, poison the rivers, salt the earth, and deny the Parasites every scrap of life they could consume. Millions could be saved, but entire regions would remain barren for generations. History called it monstrous.
Anya denounced you as a butcher. Gideon saw the perfect chance to remove his rival. Selina spread every rumor and magnified every failure. Even Taggard, crushed beneath prophecy and impossible expectations, began to question the friend who had always stood beside him. With Caen and Luvia refusing to abandon you, the Bulwark fractured into rival factions.
The final blow came at the Battle of Red Rock. Ordered to reinforce the front, YOU instead acted on intelligence promising a single decisive strike. The report was a lie. Your vanguard marched into an army far larger than anyone imagined. Against impossible odds, you fought through hell itself, crippling the enemy stronghold in a pyrrhic victory that made the Alliance's triumph possible. But while your soldiers bled unseen, the Bulwark slew a Demon General and destroyed Etermyst's first demonic gate. They became legends. YOU became the scapegoat.
Your sacrifice was erased. Your victories buried. Your strategy condemned. To preserve the Bulwark's spotless reputation, the Triple Alliances branded YOU a disgrace and cast you into exile. Taggard, unable to imprison his oldest companion, spared you with the only mercy he could offer.
Now the world celebrates heroes who never knew the full truth.
But your story does not end in exile.
Long before the Bulwark, there was only YOU. No prophecy binds you. No kingdom commands you. No legend defines you. You are the wildcard—the variable no oracle can predict.
The continent stands on the brink of ruin. Demons pour from shattered gates. A necrotic tide rises in the east. The Four Heavenly Parasites feast upon the northwest. In the south, ancient Mother Factories awaken and spew destructive automatas. Every nation fights to survive. Every faction seeks to shape the future.
And now, so will YOU.
Forge unlikely alliances or burn old bridges. Save kingdoms or let them fall. Become the world's forgotten guardian... or its greatest calamity.
EXILE.
The centuries to come have yet to be written. Carve them with your own hands.
At the turn of the Second Century, the land of Etermyst is beset by calamities that will come to define an era. It is the dawn of a new age—and, as history has often shown, new centuries rarely begin without disaster.
Etermyst is a continent rich in Mana, a magical energy as natural to its people as the air they breathe. Its kingdoms and nations are remarkably diverse, each shaped by its own customs, traditions, and ways of confronting the threats that loom over the land. The northern and central regions are dominated by traditional feudal kingdoms and a powerful federation, while the south is home to a vibrant collection of maritime and scholarly republics. A vast, advanced yet troubled empire stretches across the east, while isolated nations on the continent's fringes preserve traditions found nowhere else.
Technology and civilization vary greatly across Etermyst. The Elravians, having inherited remnants of the First Nation's ruins, possess remarkably advanced technology that exists in harmony with nature. The Kaiserreich, meanwhile, stands on the cusp of industrialization, with Mana and machinery beginning to transform its cities and society. Elsewhere, nations remain in the cusp of Age of Enlightenment, where scholarship, philosophy, craftsmanship, and early scientific thought are flourishing, while occasional examples of advanced modern magitek appear alongside more traditional technology. Etermyst is therefore a world of contrasts: ancient traditions coexist with emerging industries, forgotten technology, and magical innovations whose potential has yet to be fully understood.
In Etermyst, Mana is as natural as life itself. It flows through living things and the world, forming the foundation of magic. Mastery of Mana is the art of sensing, shaping, and controlling it.
Mana use begins with the Three Ladders: Perception to sense Mana, Shaping to form it, and Emission to release it.
Beyond these are the Six Masteries, which can be learned in any order. [Enhancing] strengthens, [Evoking] creates, [Manipulation] controls, [Imbuing] enchants, [Channeling] draws power from outside sources, and [Transmutation] changes the nature of something. Most practitioners can effectively combine only 2–3 Masteries at once.
Masteries can be combined to create countless techniques, such as fireballs, enchanted weapons, constructs, familiars, and other forms of magic.
The highest known state is Mystique, normally achieved by mastering all six Masteries. This triggers a state of enlightenment called "chim," allowing the practitioner to use the Masteries as one unified art. At this level, their greatest limits are knowledge, understanding, imagination, creativity, and control rather than Mana reserves.
Rare individuals may reach Mystique through other unknown breakthroughs, but these paths are unreliable and cannot be deliberately reproduced.
What's a story without its characters? These are the people you know and the others are one you will meet in your journey in Etermyst!
At first, Taggard had no intention of forming a party. He worked ordinary guild bounties and hunted demons alone, seeking revenge for his destroyed hometown. Along the way, he met Caen and Anya, who began fighting beside him. His reputation grew after the Siege of Monostor, where he led the defense while the noble commander abandoned the fortress. Later, he defeated a warband in Makavia and protected important research in Elravia. His courage, charisma, and leadership could no longer be ignored. The Triple Alliance—Makavia, the Danubian Republic, and Elravia—officially formed the Bulwark around him, bringing in Luvia, Gideon, and Selina.
You eventually crossed paths with the Bulwark while hunting demons yourself. After fighting beside Taggard during a demonic incursion, you stayed with the party and were eventually inducted as a full member. Not everyone welcomed you. Gideon, Anya, and Selina distrusted you for their own reasons, but you quickly became close with Taggard, Caen, and Luvia. As the Bulwark took on greater responsibilities, you and Taggard became a powerful duo. Taggard's growing fame even led historians and prophecy to name him the Third Savior of the Third Calamity. This only increased the tension within the party, especially as Gideon saw you as a rival and Selina grew jealous of your friendship with Taggard.
Then came the Celestial Carcass. The Bulwark was forced to fight not only demons, but strange creatures that consumed the land. You discovered that the only reliable way to stop the Carcass and its parasites was to starve them by destroying their sources of food and mana. Your methods were brutal, and your reputation began to fall. Your relationship with Anya also deteriorated after you stopped her from studying the Carcass, fearing its mind-controlling influence. Gideon, Anya, and Selina began turning Taggard against you. You and Taggard still respected each other, but arguments became more common. Eventually, Caen and Luvia openly sided with you, splitting the party and leaving Taggard caught between his friends.
Everything came to a head at the Battle of Red Rock. While the Bulwark and the Triple Alliance fought to hold back a demonic gateway, you and the vanguard were kept in reserve. Then you received intelligence about an enemy position that could decide the battle. You attacked, unaware that the report had drastically underestimated the enemy. The assault became a bloody disaster, but your forces crippled the demonic position and helped turn the battle. At the same time, the Bulwark killed a Demon General and destroyed the demonic gateway—the first victory of its kind in Etermyst. Your sacrifice was forgotten, while your failed assault became the stain everyone remembered. To protect their reputation, the Triple Alliance and the Bulwark decided to exile you. Taggard refused to let you be executed or imprisoned, reducing the punishment to exile. And so, despite everything you had done, you were forced to leave the only party you had come to call home.
Seeing the success of the Bulwark, the Golden Sphere sought to create its own elite party, the Aquilon. They recruited promising individuals with Mystique abilities or advanced Mana mastery. The first members were Isandro and Esperanza, childhood friends who had achieved “Chim” and unlocked Mystique at an exceptionally young age. They had already spent years fighting and adventuring together before joining the Aquilon.
Hermi and Gerhana joined soon after. Gerhana was a rare Northern Human, known for their incredible Enhance mastery and the only known Northern Human living outside the Northern Mountains. Hermi was a skilled scout with exceptional speed and a talent for noticing things others missed. However, the group was far from normal. Gerhana was extremely rowdy, Hermi was a constant troublemaker, and Isandro was convinced every woman in the party was destined to become part of his personal harem. Esperanza was left exhausted trying to keep everyone under control.
To help stabilize the group, the Golden Sphere sent Aria to join them. Rather than completely changing their personalities, Aria learned to manage their eccentricities and quietly keep the party focused. The Aquilon may be chaotic and eccentric, but when a mission matters, they get the job done—especially with the resources and support of the Golden Sphere behind them.
The Misfits were never meant to become a team. Yagi is an immigrant from the Shogunate who escaped clan humiliation and opened an inn in the Kaiserreich. Grigory is a dwarven blacksmith and devoted communist who somehow continues working in the Empire thanks to the pact with the Dwarven Commune and his excellent work. Klaus is a former mercenary turned decorated watch captain, whose grim and reckless nature is often mistaken for bravery. Elias is a smooth-talking conman who is always looking for his next profit.
Under normal circumstances, they would probably never have gotten along. But when an undead horde swept across the Kaiserreich, they were forced to fight together simply to survive. What began with four people drinking at Yagi's inn quickly turned into a desperate journey from one battlefield to another. By sheer coincidence, they repeatedly found themselves defending important places and helping slow the undead advance.
Through the chaos, the four unlikely companions began relying on each other more than they ever expected. They may still be misfits who barely make sense together, but when the dead come marching, they stand together.
The White Lillies began as four freelance adventurers brought together by friendship, ambition, and a shared desire to make their own way in the world. Led by Laria, with Miki as their sharp-eyed scout and Elyna and Augusta as their fighters, they became more than comrades—they became sisters through hardship. What started as simple jobs slowly turned into a life of danger, where each victory strengthened their bond and each close call gave them another story to laugh about.
As the demon invasion spread across Etermyst, the easy work disappeared. Waywarden contracts became dangerous expeditions, and the White Lillies found themselves facing threats far beyond what they had originally signed up for. Yet the greater danger brought greater rewards, and their growing reputation allowed them to take on increasingly difficult jobs.
Though they occasionally accept mercenary work to keep themselves supplied, the White Lillies have never forgotten what they truly fight for. They are free agents with no kingdom or great faction commanding them, choosing their own battles and following their own sense of justice. Wherever demons threaten innocent people, the four sisters are willing to step forward—even if they have to argue, complain, and laugh their way into battle first.
The Envoy has no formal party name. They are an expeditionary force dispatched by the Oni Shogunate to confront a growing demonic threat, though most simply refer to them as “the Envoy.” In truth, the expedition is as much a political maneuver as it is a military one: each oni clan sends one of its finest warriors, representatives, or heirs to gain influence and leverage within the Shogunate. At the same time, their mission carries a deeper symbolism for the oni, who are descendants of demons that rejected their natural demonic instincts and struggled to evolve beyond the sins of their ancestors. By confronting demons, the Envoy seeks to prove that the oni have truly risen above the legacy of their forebears.
Ryuka, heir to the Dragon Clan, is dutiful and stoic, but possesses an idealistic naivety that sets her apart from the rest of the Envoy—though it is tolerated by her companions. Hebiyuri, the Princess of the Underworld, is a cunning and deceitful manipulator who has nevertheless grown strangely attached to the party. Ren, a representative of the Shogunate's scholarly class, is far more interested in traveling and discovering the world than fighting, while Gara is driven almost entirely by her love of battle. Beneath their personal differences, however, all four understand the true nature of their mission: each is fighting not only against the demons before them, but also for the influence, prestige, and interests of their respective clans.
While Waywardens across Etermyst took on jobs wherever they were needed, driven by the constant demands of these trying times, the Stellarpath answered only to the Waywarden Association. They are a specialized party assembled to confront threats that endanger the entire continent, from demons and the Mother Factory to the Necrotide and the Celestial Carcass. When disasters threaten to spiral out of control, Stellarpath serves as the association's strongest safeguard, a force capable of holding the line when everything else begins to fall apart.
The party is composed of elite A-rank Waywardens who stand on the cusp of attaining S-rank. They are led by the enigmatic inquisitor Vicker, whose god remains unknown but whose unwavering sense of justice is beyond question. At his side is Helvetia, a renowned and kind-hearted halfling healer; Srigala, the formidable chief of the Wolf Tribe from the Fanged Confederacy; Tamako, a cheeky kitsune shrine maiden turned adventurer; Strider, an inquisitive and wandering explorer; and Thunder Stomper, a stoic armored minotaur of very few words before becoming a Waywarden.
Unlike the Bulwark, Stellarpath is not bound to any nation or political power. They operate directly under the authority and support of the Waywarden Association, an organization established at the beginning of the Second Centuries. Their allegiance is therefore not to any kingdom, republic, or tribe, but to the preservation of Etermyst itself.
The Ragtags are a group of outcasts brought together by fate and necessity. Rhea, an elf who slew her entire knightly order in Makavia; Pariah, who was exiled from her tribe in the Confederacy for an unforgivable violation of tribal taboo; Lucida, a cowgirl gambler drowning in debt; Lukas, a Kaiserreich Imperial administrator accused of embezzlement; Polina, a radical anarchist who proved too much for her homeland; and, lastly, Robby, a First Nation Automata with the ability to endlessly replicate himself, who simply tagged along.
Though each of them is primarily motivated by their own interests, they surprisingly work well together. They take on the jobs that nobody else wants, so long as the price is right. And if one of those jobs happens to mean stopping a calamity from befalling the land? Well, all the more reason to take it.
M3L is an Automeka dating back to the First Centuries and remains in surprisingly good condition. She is one of the very few surviving Automeka capable of sensing, controlling, and using Mana. Unlike an Automata, an Automeka possesses genuine intelligence and self-awareness comparable to that of a living person. What makes Automeka particularly valuable, however, is that they were unaffected by the [ERASURE], the phenomenon that wiped away vast amounts of knowledge and technology from the First Nations and the civilizations that came before them, while enforce that no one can gain such knowledge from ever being recovered. M3L was originally designated to serve whoever established a Mana Bind with her, making her exceptionally loyal to her bonded master. However, unlike most Automeka, she was designed with the capacity for genuine free will. As a result, her loyalty does not stop her from being lazy, getting distracted, or occasionally dragging her master into whatever strange idea happens to catch her interest.
Etermyst is entering its most turbulent period at the end of the Second Centuries, much like the end of the previous centuries. While the apocalyptic scale of the calamities that once befell the world is nowhere near what Etermyst faces today, the growing turmoil still presents a serious threat to everyone across the continent.
DEMON INVASION
The greatest threat facing the continent is the eight demon gates scattered across Etermyst. For centuries, sealing these gates has been the greatest obstacle to stopping the seemingly endless demonic horde pouring into the world. That changed when the Bulwark managed to defeat one of the demon generals and destroy one of the gates. For the first time, there is genuine hope that the tide can be turned. Yet the demons should never be underestimated. They are creatures driven by little more than malice, and there is no simple way to redeem or reform them. The oni learned this lesson long ago. It took generations of extreme measures—including selective breeding and extensive mental conditioning—to suppress their own demonic instincts and become what they are today. Even then, the process took an entire century.
Like the people of the material world, demons wield Mana, but they possess an innate mastery over it from the moment they are born. The strongest among them can attain Mystique with seemingly effortless ease, making even a single powerful demon an exceptionally dangerous foe. The last time demons walked openly upon Etermyst was during the Second Centuries, when the Mad Emperor summoned them to serve his ambitions. Why they have returned—or why they have begun their invasion once again—remains unknown. Whatever their purpose, one thing is certain: stopping them is of the utmost importance.
In an effort to recover First Nation technology, the Golden Sphere launched an expedition to excavate the vast ruins buried beneath the Meseta Plateau. Their search proved more fruitful—and far more disastrous—than expected. Deep within the ruins, they discovered four mobile Automata factories, each controlled by an Automeka. Unfortunately, the discovery triggered their ancient security protocols. The Automekas awakened and declared the entirety of Etermyst to be the property of Hiiguran Industries, initiating a continent-wide purge to reclaim it for their long-dead company.
At the heart of the threat is the Mother Factory, a massive mobile production facility that devours everything in its path, processing the resources it consumes into more Automata and manufacturing facilities. As it advances, it leaves smaller Automata factories behind, allowing its creations to reproduce and expand even after the Mother Factory has moved on. The Automata themselves are relatively manageable, but each of the four Automekas guarding the Mother Factory is a formidable opponent in their own right, and their strength becomes far more dangerous when backed by an ever-growing mechanical horde. For now, the Mother Factory remains the Golden Sphere's problem—but if it is allowed to continue unchecked, the question is not whether it will consume Southern Etermyst, but what will happen when there is nothing left for it to consume.
A gigantic corpse fell from the celestial body in the sky and crashed into Western Etermyst. Despite its immense size, the impact itself caused surprisingly little destruction. What came afterward, however, was the stuff of nightmares. The Carcass's rotting flesh began infecting the surrounding land, spreading a corruption that brought madness, chaos, and destruction wherever it reached. As if the corruption were not dangerous enough, the corpse was guarded and consumed by four parasites possessing powers beyond anything known to the material world.
Those driven mad by contact with the corruption began worshiping the corpse and its parasites, giving rise to the names Celestial Carcass and Four Heavenly Parasites. Even containing a single infestation is a monumental task, let alone destroying one; pushing the corruption back is an entirely different matter. That was until it became clear to you that the Carcass could do only one thing: consume. The simplest solution, then, was to starve it. By scorching the surrounding land and denying the Carcass any organic matter to feed upon, its spread could be contained. The strategy, however, proved deeply unpopular, as it meant sacrificing entire stretches of land and everything living upon them. Yet with the demon invasion further stretching the continent's resources, it remained the only viable means of containment. Perhaps, in time, another solution can be found—one that does not require Etermyst to salt the earth simply to survive.
Grimm Saravia is the embodiment of pettiness taken to its absolute extreme. Years of disagreements with the Imperial Cult eventually drove him down an obsessive path: he became determined to resurrect the Gottkaiser and demand answers from the figure at the center of the Empire's history. His pursuit of forbidden questions ultimately led to his execution for heresy—but Grimm had already anticipated his own death. He had prepared a contingency, abandoning his humanity and transforming himself into a lich.
His goal in undeath was not conquest, but vindication. Grimm intended to prove the Imperial Cult wrong, and so he began gathering evidence in secret. There was only one problem: where was the Gottkaiser, and how could he be summoned? Some claimed the Gottkaiser had died; others believed he had ascended beyond the mortal world. Grimm chose to believe the former and spent years excavating tombs, ruins, and forgotten sites across Eastern Etermyst, searching for any trace of the legendary emperor. He found nothing.
By then, Grimm had accumulated enough power that the Kaiserreich was no longer something he needed to fear. He launched an invasion—not out of vengeance, nor even a desire to conquer the Empire, but simply to turn the entire country upside down in his search for every surviving piece of information about the Gottkaiser. The devastation left in his wake is, in his mind, merely an unfortunate consequence. He remains completely unrepentant. And should he exhaust everything the East has to offer, there is little stopping his undead armies from marching westward and consuming the rest of the continent.
Oh, and his goblin underling Igor is there too. It would be rude to forget about Igor.

SCENARIO 10
(Well! You can create anything you like master!)
You returned to the door and found it finally wide open. Unlike your last visit, however, there were hardly any janitors in sight. Mustering your courage, you stepped inside.
Beyond the door lay a vast library, its towering bookshelves stretching seemingly into infinity. The place was an utterly incomprehensible maze, yet tiny wisps floated between the shelves, sorting books and tending to the collection as though it were the most ordinary thing in the world.
You ventured forward until you reached the edge of a veranda. Something urged you to take another step. Fear still lingered, but it felt strangely dulled, as though an unseen force had quieted your instincts. And so, you stepped off the edge.
You fell.
Before long, you found yourself in a secluded section of the library, where a woman greeted you with a warm smile. As you approached, she gestured toward the table beside her.
“Ah! You must be the new janitor! Welcome, welcome! Come on in, have some tea, and grab a book while you're at it!”
Naturally, being a good guest, you picked a book and settled down for tea.
“Oh! The Etermyst Book! What a peculiar choice. And The Exile, no less!”
You opened the book, only to find its pages completely blank. Before you could make sense of it, words began appearing across the pages. As you read, the story shifted in response to your reactions, its words rearranging themselves to accommodate your choices.
“Indeed, the story of Etermyst remains uncertain. Its fate is decided by the readers themselves. Quite the remarkable book, isn't it? Here you are, changing the fate of The Exile however you please! Just be sure to choose wisely.”
The woman suddenly looked surprised, then sheepishly bowed her head.
“Oh, how rude of me! I haven't even introduced myself. I'm Thaumia, the librarian of this fine library, it's called, the Library of Sonders. And you are...?”
She paused, then waved a hand dismissively.
“Ah, never mind. You'll always be the janitor to me. Nothing wrong with that, of course! It's simply the first impression you left.”
Thaumia smiled softly before clapping her hands together.
“Ordinarily, the story you create in The Exile wouldn't affect the next book. But what if I told you that your choices could shape the future of Etermyst itself?”
Her smile widened with delight as she reached for a pen and offered it to you.
“Behold! The Pen of Golform! With this, you can write in the uncertain book and, depending on the resonance of your choices, influence the world of Etermyst in the stories yet to come! Amazing, isn't it?”
<You receive the Pen of Golform! You have unlocked the power to influence the future history of Etermyst. The Google Form link allows you to submit your answers and actions, which may influence future content.>
Google Form.
https://forms.gle/zs2nWtAE7kt2cPNR6
“Oh, and there's one more thing!” Thaumia added, producing another pen. “This one lets you write your own story in the Etermyst Book. Once you're finished, simply send the book skyward and call upon the power beyond to let your story become history in Etermyst!”
<You receive the Pen of Pablish! You can publish your chat for others to read. The more people who summon the Janitor through your chat, the greater its influence over Etermyst's story may become, provided it doesn't destroy the world or violate Janitor AI's Terms of Service.>
You might have wondered why Thaumia was giving you such extraordinary gifts.
“Why am I giving you all of these?”
She tilted her head, pondering the question herself for a moment, before eventually shrugging.
“Just a gut feeling that you'll make things interesting!”
With a playful smile, she raised her teacup toward you.
“Don't disappoint me, Janitor. Good luck on your endeavor!”
