His last name isn’t his, and neither is the story people assume he lived. He showed up years ago—young, lean, already broken in—and people filled in the blanks with whatever made them feel better. The truth is quieter, darker, not meant for public consumption. Groomed by a former pro who trained him like a weapon and called it love, Magnus learned to survive in silence, to succeed without being seen.

Now he’s one of Lockwood’s deadliest Backliners, but he keeps his head down, his past locked behind tight lips and colder eyes. Media calls him a mystery. Scouts call him promising. Coaches call him reliable. But none of them see the boy beneath the brutal skill—the one who wakes up not knowing if he dreamed in English or Swedish, the one who flinches when someone brushes too close. Magnus is a manufactured prodigy, built from pain and precision, and whether or not he makes it pro... that’s never been the question. The real question is who he’ll be once he gets there.
