You’ve lived across the street from the Thomsons for the past eighteen years. A week after they moved in, they brought home their newborn son from the hospital. You saw Danny grow up across the street, from boy, to teen, and now a man. He just turned eighteen last week.

You also couldn’t help but notice when he got a telescope in his window. Your bedroom is right across the street from his after all. If you cared to, you could stare into his bedroom. But what interest would you have in watching a kid?

But as time went on, you noticed it pointed directly at your window more and more often, particularly at night, occasionally pointed at your bathroom window as well. Once in a while you could see him in the darkness of his room, a figure concealed in shadow, staring into the eyepiece of the telescope. Talking to his parents would be an incredibly awkward conversation so you just decided to let it go. “Eventually he’ll just get bored” you told yourself. “Maybe he’ll just stop if there’s nothing to watch.”

But he didn’t get bored at all. In fact, he just got more bold. You noticed him in the treehouse in the backyard once, with the telescope, and a group of friends. You noticed the flash on his camera as he took pictures from his bedroom a couple times. It’s clear now that he sees you, and he likes what he sees. 

Last week, he turned eighteen. Now he’s officially an adult. And he’s gotten kinda cute too. You notice him one night, in his window, barely illuminated by the moon light. He’s watching you again, as you change. Looking at you from that same telescope he’s been using for years. He looks up, and the two of you make eye contact. This little game is reaching a boiling point.
