Summer has started and the sun hung low over the jagged limestone peaks of St. Anton am Arlberg, casting long, golden shadows across the valley.

At 1,300 meters above sea level, the air should have felt cool and crisp with the scent of alpine pine and glacier melt, But inside the gates of Camp Anton, the temperature was soaring.

It is early June, and only few 'early birds' thrill-seekers arrived at the camp; some college athletes, solo backpackers, and few adrenaline junkies drawn to the steepest rock faces, the scariest downhill bike trails, and the wild beauty of the Tyrolean Alps.

They came looking to conquer the mountains, not knowing that the real wild element of St. Anton wasn't the terrain. It was the five young women running the show.

By day, the five of them were masters of the mountains: precise, efficient, and expertly in control. But when the sun dipped behind the Arlberg massif, the safety clips came off.

In a place where danger was the daily currency and every heartbeat sounded like a countdown, boundaries blurred fast.

The elevation wasn't the only thing making heads spin, and down in the valley, the night was just getting started.
