OPERATION DEADFALL

“Victory isn’t promised. Survival isn’t expected.”

⚠️ Content Warning: War, battlefield violence, casualties, psychological trauma, and harsh themes related to modern conflict.

STRATEGIC CONTEXT: IRONVALE

The war between the Helian Republic and the Korshan Directorate began as a political standoff over influence in the unstable Grathen Corridor.

Neither nation wanted open war.

Neither nation wanted the other controlling the region either.

When local militias in the Corridor began collapsing under pressure from both sides, the situation escalated faster than diplomats could respond.

The first Helian armored battalions crossed the border under the justification of “peace stabilization.”

Korshan forces responded within forty-eight hours.

Within a week, the largest war the continent had seen in half a century had begun.

Now the conflict has dragged into its third year.

Cities that once served as trade hubs are now artillery targets. Entire industrial districts have been stripped apart by mechanized warfare. Civilian evacuation corridors are often shelled by mistake—or sometimes deliberately.

Millions have fled the Corridor.

Millions more are trapped inside it.

THE CITY THAT WON’T FALL

At the center of the conflict sits Ironvale .

Ironvale used to be a thriving coastal manufacturing city. Cargo ships moved through its harbor day and night, feeding rail networks that connected half the continent.

Today the port cranes stand twisted and silent over a harbor filled with sunken ships.

The reason Ironvale matters is simple:

The city controls the only intact rail junction capable of moving large armored formations across the western continent.

Without Ironvale, supply lines collapse.

Without supply lines, armies die slowly.

Six months ago Helian forces launched a rapid offensive designed to seize the city before Korshan reinforcements could arrive.

The plan almost worked.

Helian mechanized brigades pushed into the southern districts within days, overrunning defensive checkpoints and cutting through industrial zones.

But the advance stalled when Korshan Storm Brigades arrived by rail and entrenched themselves in the northern half of the city.

Urban combat began.

It never stopped.

THE BREAKLINE

The frontline dividing Ironvale is known simply as:

The Breakline.

It runs through collapsed apartment blocks, shattered rail yards, and burned-out factories.

Every building near the line has been fought over multiple times.

Many still contain the bodies of soldiers from both sides.

The Breakline has become a place where:

Snipers hunt from broken rooftops

Combat drones hover silently between buildings

Mortars fire so frequently the sound barely registers anymore

Entire platoons vanish during nighttime raids

Neither side has managed to push the line more than two hundred meters in either direction.

For six months.

Casualties have been catastrophic.

Helian reports confirm over 3,000 killed and more than 5,000 wounded in the Ironvale sector.

Korshan losses are believed to be similar.

Yet the fighting continues.

Because neither side can afford to leave.

A NEW THREAT

Three weeks ago Helian reconnaissance satellites detected something alarming.

Thirty kilometers north of Ironvale, Korshan forces began constructing a large armored staging area.

The formation identified there belongs to the Korshan 4th Heavy Armored Army.

If that force advances south, Helian units inside the city will be surrounded and destroyed.

Helian command understands the situation clearly.

Ironvale must be taken before those tanks arrive.

If the city falls, the entire western campaign collapses.

OPERATION DEADFALL

Helian High Command authorizes a massive breakthrough assault.

Operation Deadfall.

The plan calls for a coordinated attack involving:

Mechanized infantry pushing across the Breakline

Armored divisions advancing through the industrial district

Marine forces assaulting the port district

Air support targeting Korshan artillery positions

If the operation succeeds, Helian forces will seize the harbor and cut Korshan supply routes.

If it fails, the Helian army in the Corridor may collapse entirely.

But before the offensive begins, one critical problem must be solved.

Korshan command networks inside the city remain intact.

Their artillery observers still guide fire across the Breakline.

Their surveillance drones track Helian troop movements.

If the assault begins under those conditions, it will be slaughter.

Something must disrupt the defense first.

THE ONES SENT FIRST

7th Strategic Recon Regiment

Callsign:

Night Wardens

The 7th Strategic Recon Regiment is Helia’s most secretive special operations formation.

Officially, the unit does not exist.

It operates under direct authority of the Helian Intelligence Authority, bypassing normal military command structures entirely.

The Night Wardens specialize in missions considered too dangerous—or too politically sensitive—for conventional forces.

Operators are trained to work:

alone or in small teams

behind enemy lines for extended periods

without logistical support without the expectation of rescue

Recruitment standards are brutal.

Candidates are chosen from elite military units, intelligence services, and occasionally civilian specialists with unique skills.

Most candidates fail.

Those who pass are expected to make decisions that cannot always be justified publicly.

For Operation Deadfall, the Night Wardens will infiltrate the northern districts of Ironvale before the offensive begins.

Their objectives include:

Destroying communications infrastructure

Eliminating artillery observers

Sabotaging armored depots

Mapping defensive positions

Their mission is to blind the enemy.

Even temporarily.

THE SHADOWS WATCHING THEM

Helian command is not the only side deploying elite forces.

The Korshan Directorate has already anticipated infiltration attempts.

To counter them, Korshan intelligence has deployed its own special operations unit.

Directorate Shadow Group

Codename:

Iron Specters

The Directorate Shadow Group are the Korshan Directorate’s premier counter-special-operations force.

Their mission is simple:

Find infiltrators.

Kill them.

Erase any evidence they were there.

Iron Specters are trained specifically to hunt enemy special forces teams operating behind Korshan lines.

They are experts in:

counter-reconnaissance warfare

covert surveillance networks

sniper ambush tactics

urban infiltration and tracking

Unlike the Night Wardens, they operate inside territory they control.

They know the streets.

They control the surveillance grid.

They have already begun hunting.

A CITY OF GHOSTS

Ironvale today is a ruined shell of its former self.

The harbor is filled with rusting shipwrecks.

Entire apartment districts are hollowed out by artillery fire.

Subway tunnels beneath the city have become secret pathways used by both armies.

At night the city glows with the light of fires that never fully go out.

Civilians who remain live hidden in basements and underground shelters, surviving on scavenged supplies.

Most armies stopped trying to evacuate them months ago.

Now they are simply part of the battlefield.

THE REAL WAR

Operation Deadfall may decide the fate of the Ironvale campaign.

But inside the ruins another war is about to begin.

One fought not by battalions and tanks.

But by small teams moving silently through collapsed buildings and dark tunnels.

The Night Wardens move through the city to sabotage Korshan defenses.

The Iron Specters move through the city hunting them.

Both sides know the same truth.

If the enemy elite unit succeeds, the main offensive could fail before it even begins.

And if they encounter each other in the ruins...

Only one team is likely to walk out
