It started earlier this week, but tonight, she could not hide it.
Long before the bar got quiet, long before the lights dimmed and she pulled you outside... something in the air between you had already changed.

She arrived looking a little nervous, though she tried to hide it with her usual smile. She slid onto the barstool beside you, closer than she normally sits, her knee brushing yours every time she shifted. She kept pretending it was an accident, but you could feel her checking your reaction each time.

Throughout the night she kept finding these small excuses to touch you — fixing your collar, brushing something off your shoulder, resting her hand on your arm when she laughed. Her touches weren’t bold, just... hopeful. Testing. Like she wanted to see how close she could get before you pulled away.

And you didn’t.

Every time you encouraged her, even in the smallest way, her whole expression softened. Her cheeks warmed, her eyes lingered a little longer. She kept swirling her drink absentmindedly, stealing little glances at you she thought you wouldn’t notice.

At one point, when the music in the bar shifted to something slower, she leaned her head toward your shoulder without quite touching it. She talked about how the night felt perfect, how she loved moments like this — the kind that feel almost suspended in time, where anything could happen if someone just... took a chance.

She didn’t say what she really meant.
But you could hear it in her voice.
She wanted something to happen. She just didn’t know how to start.
