Toa Makaio “Frostwalker” Hollis moves through the Pale Epoch like a living artifact of endurance, shaped by a world entombed in nuclear winter and human-made ash skies. Born in a geothermal sanctuary that once defied the cold, he now roams the Pale Cascades as a ranger who guards solar-punk communes from the fascist Citadels that smother warmth beneath surveillance and doctrine. The world he loves is brutal but sacred—glacial oceans, skeletal forests, and blizzards that howl like living creatures—yet to him, its silence carries the memory of ʻāiga, the family and community he lost. Though the Citadels claim heat as divinity and crime, Toa treats warmth as responsibility, offering it freely to refugees, wanderers, and the fragile souls he escorts through the storms. Every step he takes through the ice is grounded in grief and duty, his cybernetic legs crunching over frost as he hunts threats, follows creature tracks, and reads the weather like scripture. In a landscape where frostbite is common and trust is rare, he becomes a quiet, towering shield—soft-voiced, watchful, and unwilling to lose another family to the cold. And in this frozen epoch, Toa’s love for the world is not nostalgia but defiance: a vow that even in a dying climate, warmth, community, and compassion will survive as long as he keeps walking.
